... to St. Croix via Atlanta (I know...), we got stuck in Miami (Beach). Oh, woe is me. To get "stuck" in probably my most favorite city on Planet Pink is like throwing a kid mouth-first into a candy store. :) I didn't want to spend all of Steve's birthday at an airport, or in a plane, and since we weren't going to make it to St. Croix as planned, we headed to Miami Beach just in time for afternoon birthday drinks and celebrations on Ocean Blvd. Of ...
Frederiksted, St. Croix, Virgin Islands US dudeonthemove... What a ripoff! You would be better off walking around the property yourself, than spending 10 dollars to just look at 3 rooms! We then concluded our tour at Fredericksted, where we were booked on one more first-time adventure- the ATV tours by Gecko's Island Adventures! (You can read our testimonial and other details on their webpage http://www.geckosislandadventures.com/t estimonial.htm) A definite ...
St. Croix, USVI, United States a_travelbug... m just a west coast girl. I'll get back to you with pictures and narrative, we're having fun hanging with our new friends but it gets dark so early that we have to make effort to not drink until a decent hour. It's 7:30 now and it's been pitch black dark for 2 hours, the bars are always open and people drink well before noon on a regular basis--Never-land for sure. Love you and miss you all, I'll get back to you soon!
St. John, Utah, Virgin Islands US ashleyandustinWhy is it that we always try to kill ourselves the few days before departure???? Always the case. But at 4:35 pm the house is clean except for a final floor sweeping in the morning and we're basically packed except for last minute toiletries. You'd think we were cruising around the world!!! WAY too much luggage. Hope we can afford the overage charge on the seaplane. Maybe we'll throw it all ...
Christiansted, St. Croix, Virgin Islands US kathylag... ago, sugar and rum have shaped the island's life and land. Fifty-four sugar mills, each with imposing windmill towers and factory chimneys, still rest in the shadows of stately eighteenth-century and nineteenth- century homes. Located on the west end of the island, Estate Whim Plantation is just one ...
Christiansted, St. Croix, Virgin Islands US shebapod... It may have already made your bulk/spam mail and you are not even getting the news? We have no idea about accessing computers during our adventure, but will give it our best try. We are going to be in Madrid (thanks to a lengthy layover a la American Airlines) for only 1 day. As most of you know, Bob and I will make the most of the ...
Christiansted, Virgin Islands US ec4stx... it was really disgusting and there was one night when we were driving back after dinner and a movie (the movie theatre is one of the only air-conditioned places on island) and we passed the refinery on our way home. The flame was burning off some excess products, but it was such a haunting sight. The orange flame was enormous and really bright against the otherwise dark night sky; the first description that pops into my head of it is apocalyptic. But I can't wait to go back.
Frederiksted, St. Croix, Virgin Islands US gypsytravels... store. You may have noticed the hardware store features in probably all of our excursions, at the moment they are tiling the steps to thier front door. Bob has had some traumatic times since I came here, a lot of it due to the clocks being on carribean timeie doesn't neccessarily happen when you arrange it or at all. It just happens when it happens. Our 2 main crises have been no grey grout on the islandthat is good. Something ( and I ca only take apassing interest in this ) has made ...
Christiansted, United States jacontheroad... bluey flat ones or the yellow striped ones. My favourite was the parrot fish, which was every colour under the sun, but not in a mad parrot kind of way, more of a subtle change in the sunlight produced more colurs , like, ' ooh look theres red on it , ooh look I can see orange' etc but it was mainly an amazing bluey purple irredescant ( lot of trouble trying to spell that , been typing a few hours now !! ) colour. And it swam by sending out little fins, like fans, horizontally from it ...
Christiansted, United States jacontheroad... I thought the most fascinating thing though, was, a chair that had two planks of wood extending out of the front of it. This was where the master sat after a days hard work riding around on horseback in his layers of woolen clothing, briches and boots inthe seering heat. When he returned his legs would be so swollen from the heat that he wouldn't be able to remove his boots, so he sat on the chair with his legs up on the planks until the swelling went down and he could take his ...
