Katakolon - Olympia
... naar Olympia en controle krijgen , blijken de tickets toch correct te zijn. Het 'station' mag dan primitief zijn en de uurregeling op zijn minst bizar, de trein is perfect in orde. Heel netjes, met airco en veel beter dan de treinen die we in Italië genomen hebben.
Na 45 minuten komen we aan in Olympia. We kopen een combiticket voor de archeologische site en het museum. Dat kost 9 euro per persoon. De opgravingen zijn heel erg de moeite. ...

Today we are in our last port before Venice and we have decided that we would disembark but not necessarily go any further than the port. The town is Katakolon in Greece and is famous for being the destination to go through to Olympia (where they start the torch for all the Olympics) and where the first Olympics were ever held.

... the lobby today. Our bus took us to the cruise boat and we departed at 8:30, arriving at our first stop Hydra at 11:15. Hydra turned out to be the favourite stop for most of us for different reasons: Bite size, manageable, quite pretty, Donkeys, working fishing harbour, best views etc. We bought and shared a very nice Spanakopita from one of the local bakeries before exploring. Ancient Olympics
... the expectations of their whole city on their shoulders, it was stinking HOT! We had a lot more respect for what they did. We can hear cicadas everywhere we go, which is a little disconcerting. I have to keep reminding myself that I'm not in Australia.
The weather is warming up with temps in the mid 30's. The breeze doesn't pick up until after lunch so it can be uncomfortable on the boat unless we can swim to cool down. ...
