Sushi and Shinjuku

We started today by going to Tsukijishiju. There is this huge fish market there and many little sushi shops that serve some of the freshest sushi you can get. It's generally suggested that you get there around 5:30 am so you can catch the highlight of the market day: the tuna auction. Lines of tuna fish (maguro) are put out for auction to the highest bidders. If you have ever seen a tuna fish, you already know that those things are pretty big. Now imagine several hundred of them lined up for ...

Last days in Tokyo...

In less than three hours we have to say goodbye to Tokyo. The last day and or so all seem like a blur. This is what the past couples days have been like... Thursday we went to the Tokyo Museum of Contemporary Art. It was cool. There were a couple of art installations that I found really interesting and I hope to mimic or reinterpret them when I get back home. The museum is located by this nice park. There were some kids doing sprint races on this bridge in the park and E.J. and I joined in wi...

World's Largest Fish Market By the time we got there, the auction was already over (They open at 4am.) But we get to see the tail end of the fish market process where workers busily packing various seafood for shipping. We weren't supposed to be at the warehouse but we went anyway. No one seemed to care. They just walked past us like we weren't even there. It was great. We wandered all over the warehouse taking pictures without a single person asking us what we were doing there. Actually, the...

Last day in Tokyo

Sleeping in a capsule hotel is a little like sleeping in a coffin, then waking in the morning and realising you aren't dead. In fact, it is a very comfortable night's sleep. When I turned in last night at around 10:30, only three of the 40-odd capsules on my floor were occupied. When I wake up, almost all have been or are being used, so I guess it's a late night type of thing. However, I hardly heard a noise, apart from the odd cough or ****, surprising considering the close quarters we were ...

One Week In!

hello!! We finally arrived in Tokyo after a couple of really long days travelling. This included a 6 hour wait in Doha Airport, which seems to be the transfer flight mecca of the world! We were quite excited to be given meal vounchers upon arrival, said excitement dying when given a spoonful of yellow sludge with a few veg thrown in and lots of rice! Spent one night in Beijing (and of course had to sample the crispy duck!) and then got another plane on Saturday to Tokyo. I LOVE Japan!! It`s s...

arrived in japan after a ball ache flight of 11 hours. dunno why it sucked as iv done twice that before, its just my legs were killin for all of the journey and i spent most of the time panickin and day dreamin that i were gonna get DVT and lose my legs. as usual, the worries were pointless, and we scooted from narita to the centre of tokyo (77kms) no bother. we headed straight for old japan, to a capsule hotel on the riverside. capsule hotels are wicked! its a spot where ****** up jap busine...

Irashaimase!

Hi there... Tokyo is the biggest, cleanest and most organized city I've visited. How to be the biggest, cleanest and most organized at the same time is a Japanese secret and a mystery to the rest of us. I enjoyed the hot springs and the different lodging options such as ryokan or capsule hotels (you gotta try it at least once!). Nightlife was rather dissapointing, and I found the Roppongi area rather trashy and annoying. Shopping in Tokyo is something else! There's nothing you can't get. My f...

Tokyo So i flew into Japan arriving at Narita airport, and couldn't land initially because it was snowing so had to circle for about 20 minutes. Found my way to Akihabara after a long train trip and checked in to where i was staying, Capsule Inn - Akihabara. Awesome place and i recommend it for something different and cheap while you're staying in Tokyo! First day went wondering around Tokyo, and it is massive, nothing in Australia compares. Found a Pachinko parlor by accident, but didn't pla...

Tokyo

We had to see all those cities people love and thats the reason we had to do Tokyo. Its one of those cities on our must-visit list! Why is it a must do you ask? Fashion, business, people and culture all intertwine in a volatile mix in this metropolis. Its not just a city, but rather its own world. Tokyo is a city that never sleeps. Although the trains stop around 12:30, the bars are still hopping, nourishing hordes of Japanese men wearing the Tokyo uniform - the business suit. We saw many of ...

We had a lot of fun playing all the newest games.... they have some great ones where you stand in front of the tv, a camera captures your image and what you`re doing?@and you fight boxers, or go curling etc etc...all the while you`re acting it out and the game responds... so cool (they ...
