... boy have we done a lot of that! - we also spent a bit of time watching the hang gliders. It was fantastic and I could almost have been tempted to have a go myself. Most people were doing it in tandem with an instructor and it looked so good and graceful. Cost a fortune of course, but so worth it!
Have had a wonderful few days in Switzerland and my next visit will be in the snow. Now for London... If the plane ever gets here....
... at the top of the Mannlichen cable car and had met up with Jon, Sam, Matt and Bruce. The conditions were perfect with blue skies and good snow.
Matt went of for a beginners snowboarding and the rest of the group had an easy introduction to Skiing on a blue run before completing a few more red runs before lunch. During one of the runs in the morning we took a slalom run challenge. The course was badly rutted and not easy to complete but I managed to escape with ...
... I was on the train. But where was Dad? He was at an ATM getting some money. Silly Dad. He got on the train just in time.
We had to wait a while for the train to start. On the train, I had found a lone window above a seat that folded in for handicapped people. It was the perfect sniping place with my poster in the cardboard tube I had gotten in Mürren. Out the window I ...
... upon the city almost year round, although winter slows the falling rate. Lauterbrunnen is also one of the premier BASE jumping sites in the world and annually, many jump off the cliffs above town and every year sometimes a dozen are killed. My favorite spot is the Horner Pub, which has now become the headquarters for all BASE jumpers in the Berner Oberland. As much as I have visited Lauterbrunnen, I have made a good friend in Angie, the bartender/manager of the Horner ...
... at night we head off into town. It's about a 15 minute walk to the "town", but with the fresh air, beautiful surroundings, and good people we're there in a snap! Finding a good restaurant (harder than usual as many places are
closed up until the official ski season), our Swiss hosts introduce us to Swiss fondue - bread and potatoes dipped into melted cheese and oil...very tasty! Spotting a bar on the way back, we pop ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel Caprice Wengen
This hotel exceeded all expectations!
We stayed at the Caprice July24 for 4 nights We were a little apprehensive staying at a "smaller" hotel but because of the reviews on this site , we took our chances. It Was the best vacation experience of our life!!!! Absolutely immacculate. The staff was Top-notch. Very personable..it helped make us feel not so "foreign"!!
The views out of the dining room ....Oh MY GOSH
I have recommended to ALL my friends to stay here
The most beautiful place in the world.
we visited at the end of may, 2004.
we were fortunate to have a top floor room with a jacuzzi tub, marble bath, wood beamed ceilings and the most incredible view of the alps above, the quaint wengen village at our feet and the totally spectacular 'valley of waterfalls' in the near distance.
the location was literally steps from the train station.
the staff was efficiently helpful. one employee, i believe his name was andy from canada, was very helpful in giving advice on a hiking/walking trail to and beyond "mary's cafe" that i found so fulfilling. this is 'old europe' at its best.
we visited six places in europe. if i can only return to one - it will be wengen and the wonderful establishment of the caprice hotel.
We had a great June stay at the Caprice - two nights in a double with view on the second floor - it was perfect! The room was well-designed, and the view was unbelievable - the photos can't capture how extrordinary. In the morning, all we could hear were cowbells far off in the distance. Dinner was ultra-fancy, haute cuisine, perfect for a special celebration (we had a second dinner at the Eiger, traditional Swiss, also enjoyable).
A true gem for the discriminating traveler!
Hotel Caprice with its spectacular views, gourmet dining and excellent service from the warm & friendly management & staff made our visit truly memorable! Hats off to Monica & Christian Aubert! Gail & Alan Wayne
Don't think of staying anywhere else
Everything perfect - the location by the railstation, the view of the mountains, the bedroom very comfortable and functional with modern bath, and the best for last: absolutely magnificant food - a world class restaurant!
A Great Hotel
Situated only 100 meters from the train station and a few minutes walk from the telecabine, offering 2 routes to the ski slopes / mountain walks, together with the ability, in winter, to ski right down to the back door, this hotel is beautifully located for couples and families.
Panoramic views of the mountains and quick access to the small picturesque, car-free in winter, town of Wengen, are an additional benefit. The Caprice was recently completely refurbished to a very high standard. With comfortable bedrooms, excellent cuisine, a well stocked bar and a relaxed friendly atmosphere I am sure that you will enjoy your holiday here.
Caprice is excellent
The Caprice has been beautifully refurbished. The management and staff are most helpful and friendly. The accommodation is superb and all rooms have amazing views. The location is breathtaking and a two minute walk from the centre.I cannot recommend it highly enough and will return
The best views in the World !
This Hotel has the best mountain views in Switzerland, if not the whole World ! Since a previous stay in 2002, we were very pleased this year ( 2003 ) to see that the Hotel has been completely and very tastefully renovated. There is a new comfortable lounge with a log fire, and a new bar with views to the mountains. The new restaurant is extremely well appointed, with French Gourmet cuisine. Our bedroom was very comfortable, with new carpet, curtains and bedspread. The lighting is also much improved, and there are now bathrobes ! The views from the balcony have to be seen to be believed !
Unbeatable location and views
Top class cuisine, fine wines and excellant comfort. Access to both the town and slopes is easy. A great location to enjoy the stunning mountains in both summer and winter.
