Travel Blogs from Wengen
Having finished sorting out the details of the skiing paraphernalia early this morning the alarm clock seemed to be unreasonably early. However, it gave us time to get up and get some breakfast before moving out to the train station. The departure from the hotel was at 8.05 and the train left at 8.35. This gave us time to put our walking boots in the locker at the station and head up on the train with just the ski equipment.
We got off at Wengen and ...
... LSD run a week I am afraid. I'm also going to do some long walks too through April in preparation for mixing up the running/walking.
Halcyon Computer Supplies. Rod Tranter of Halcyon has offered some support to the cause; buying equipment, or paying some of the expenses. Thank you Rod. Also, I have got to thank Rod for introducing me to the joys of skiing in the Eiger area, as it was he that first got me to go to Grindlewald!
... lunch overlooking the valley. Since the weather looked a bit better, we then walked to Gimmelwald, and took a thrilling gondola ride back down to the valley at Stechelberg. A bus then carried us back to Lauterbrunnen and the train carried us back up the mountain to Wengen. Whew! Tuesday, however, we decided to truly test our tenacity by climbing up from Wengen, with the ultimate goal of reaching The Top of Europe. But that is a tale for a different ...
... herd as their ethereal forms move about the mountain, in search of grass they can no longer taste. When we finally made it down from the trail, fortunately avalanche free, we had a quick drink at base camp and then it was time for me to say goodbye. The entire entourage saw me off at the train station as I prepared to make the same epic journey for the second time today. It was quite sad to leave the family behind, but their adventures in Europe will continue… as will ...
... and hail. It is clearing now as I am writing this and I am able to see the tops of the mountains I only guessed were there. I could live here, no doubt!!
After our hike, we played tennis on the clay courts and Opa and Maya played ping pong and putt putt golf. Maya even went over by herself where some other kids and teenagers were attempting to walk on this low tight ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel Caprice Wengen
This hotel exceeded all expectations!
We stayed at the Caprice July24 for 4 nights We were a little apprehensive staying at a "smaller" hotel but because of the reviews on this site , we took our chances. It Was the best vacation experience of our life!!!! Absolutely immacculate. The staff was Top-notch. Very personable..it helped make us feel not so "foreign"!!
The views out of the dining room ....Oh MY GOSH
I have recommended to ALL my friends to stay here
The most beautiful place in the world.
we visited at the end of may, 2004.
we were fortunate to have a top floor room with a jacuzzi tub, marble bath, wood beamed ceilings and the most incredible view of the alps above, the quaint wengen village at our feet and the totally spectacular 'valley of waterfalls' in the near distance.
the location was literally steps from the train station.
the staff was efficiently helpful. one employee, i believe his name was andy from canada, was very helpful in giving advice on a hiking/walking trail to and beyond "mary's cafe" that i found so fulfilling. this is 'old europe' at its best.
we visited six places in europe. if i can only return to one - it will be wengen and the wonderful establishment of the caprice hotel.
Gorgeous, serene, extraordinary
We had a great June stay at the Caprice - two nights in a double with view on the second floor - it was perfect! The room was well-designed, and the view was unbelievable - the photos can't capture how extrordinary. In the morning, all we could hear were cowbells far off in the distance. Dinner was ultra-fancy, haute cuisine, perfect for a special celebration (we had a second dinner at the Eiger, traditional Swiss, also enjoyable).
The train ride up was very easy - we went straight from the Zurich airport train to Interlaken, and then changed onto the local picturesque railway and wound our way up the mountain under waterfalls and rock-faced mountains. Wengen is a great town, and we used it as a base for walking and light hiking.
We found this hotel through Trip Advisor and all the other rewiews and we were really impressed.
A true gem for the discriminating traveler!
Hotel Caprice with its spectacular views, gourmet dining and excellent service from the warm & friendly management & staff made our visit truly memorable! Hats off to Monica & Christian Aubert! Gail & Alan Wayne
Don't think of staying anywhere else
Everything perfect - the location by the railstation, the view of the mountains, the bedroom very comfortable and functional with modern bath, and the best for last: absolutely magnificant food - a world class restaurant!
A Great Hotel
Situated only 100 meters from the train station and a few minutes walk from the telecabine, offering 2 routes to the ski slopes / mountain walks, together with the ability, in winter, to ski right down to the back door, this hotel is beautifully located for couples and families.
Panoramic views of the mountains and quick access to the small picturesque, car-free in winter, town of Wengen, are an additional benefit. The Caprice was recently completely refurbished to a very high standard. With comfortable bedrooms, excellent cuisine, a well stocked bar and a relaxed friendly atmosphere I am sure that you will enjoy your holiday here.
Caprice is excellent
The Caprice has been beautifully refurbished. The management and staff are most helpful and friendly. The accommodation is superb and all rooms have amazing views. The location is breathtaking and a two minute walk from the centre.I cannot recommend it highly enough and will return
The best views in the World !
This Hotel has the best mountain views in Switzerland, if not the whole World ! Since a previous stay in 2002, we were very pleased this year ( 2003 ) to see that the Hotel has been completely and very tastefully renovated. There is a new comfortable lounge with a log fire, and a new bar with views to the mountains. The new restaurant is extremely well appointed, with French Gourmet cuisine. Our bedroom was very comfortable, with new carpet, curtains and bedspread. The lighting is also much improved, and there are now bathrobes ! The views from the balcony have to be seen to be believed !
Unbeatable location and views
Top class cuisine, fine wines and excellant comfort. Access to both the town and slopes is easy. A great location to enjoy the stunning mountains in both summer and winter.
