... along the way, including a "honesty shop" at a farm where you could buy some fresh jam or cheese or honey and then leave the requested francs in the box in the frig. The last 15 km of the trip were along the lake on the way to Interlaken. It was a beautiful view, even in the rain. When we arrived in Interlaken, we were amazed at some of the hotels we passed. We met our driver at one of the hotels, where we all left our ...
... across the valley is even smaller but more beautiful if that is possible. And the skiing from Murren is so quiet, unrushed and out of this world. I skied there three days in great conditions and sun; one day skiing above the clouds whilst on the Shilthorn. The three other days were a bit of a mix, cloudy, bad light at times, but hey one cannot be greedy! And there was a pub to watch the rugby. Come on England; great craic with ...
... alike. We were intent on spending several days here. And so for our home base we booked a hotel in Wengen, a car-free village that can be reached only by foot or by cog railway from the only slightly larger (but significantly less elevated) town of Lauterbrunnen. Our Wengen hotel offered each of us each a balcony with alpine views, so it was a treat from the moment we settled in. Transport in the Bernese Oberland is incredibly good, but also ...
We took a train from Lucerne to Interlaken, a beautiful train journey (which is on the Swiss Golden Pass route), it is best to sit on the right hand side of train; as this will provides a spectacular view of the lakes and if the weather is good time will just fly by (as will your camera battery!)
At Interlaken, we took a slight detour to Riggenberg Church (approximately 20 minutes by bus from the train station); a happy accident as we just jumped on ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel Caprice Wengen
This hotel exceeded all expectations!
We stayed at the Caprice July24 for 4 nights We were a little apprehensive staying at a "smaller" hotel but because of the reviews on this site , we took our chances. It Was the best vacation experience of our life!!!! Absolutely immacculate. The staff was Top-notch. Very personable..it helped make us feel not so "foreign"!!
The views out of the dining room ....Oh MY GOSH
I have recommended to ALL my friends to stay here
The most beautiful place in the world.
we visited at the end of may, 2004.
we were fortunate to have a top floor room with a jacuzzi tub, marble bath, wood beamed ceilings and the most incredible view of the alps above, the quaint wengen village at our feet and the totally spectacular 'valley of waterfalls' in the near distance.
the location was literally steps from the train station.
the staff was efficiently helpful. one employee, i believe his name was andy from canada, was very helpful in giving advice on a hiking/walking trail to and beyond "mary's cafe" that i found so fulfilling. this is 'old europe' at its best.
we visited six places in europe. if i can only return to one - it will be wengen and the wonderful establishment of the caprice hotel.
We had a great June stay at the Caprice - two nights in a double with view on the second floor - it was perfect! The room was well-designed, and the view was unbelievable - the photos can't capture how extrordinary. In the morning, all we could hear were cowbells far off in the distance. Dinner was ultra-fancy, haute cuisine, perfect for a special celebration (we had a second dinner at the Eiger, traditional Swiss, also enjoyable).
A true gem for the discriminating traveler!
Hotel Caprice with its spectacular views, gourmet dining and excellent service from the warm & friendly management & staff made our visit truly memorable! Hats off to Monica & Christian Aubert! Gail & Alan Wayne
Don't think of staying anywhere else
Everything perfect - the location by the railstation, the view of the mountains, the bedroom very comfortable and functional with modern bath, and the best for last: absolutely magnificant food - a world class restaurant!
A Great Hotel
Situated only 100 meters from the train station and a few minutes walk from the telecabine, offering 2 routes to the ski slopes / mountain walks, together with the ability, in winter, to ski right down to the back door, this hotel is beautifully located for couples and families.
Panoramic views of the mountains and quick access to the small picturesque, car-free in winter, town of Wengen, are an additional benefit. The Caprice was recently completely refurbished to a very high standard. With comfortable bedrooms, excellent cuisine, a well stocked bar and a relaxed friendly atmosphere I am sure that you will enjoy your holiday here.
Caprice is excellent
The Caprice has been beautifully refurbished. The management and staff are most helpful and friendly. The accommodation is superb and all rooms have amazing views. The location is breathtaking and a two minute walk from the centre.I cannot recommend it highly enough and will return
The best views in the World !
This Hotel has the best mountain views in Switzerland, if not the whole World ! Since a previous stay in 2002, we were very pleased this year ( 2003 ) to see that the Hotel has been completely and very tastefully renovated. There is a new comfortable lounge with a log fire, and a new bar with views to the mountains. The new restaurant is extremely well appointed, with French Gourmet cuisine. Our bedroom was very comfortable, with new carpet, curtains and bedspread. The lighting is also much improved, and there are now bathrobes ! The views from the balcony have to be seen to be believed !
Unbeatable location and views
Top class cuisine, fine wines and excellant comfort. Access to both the town and slopes is easy. A great location to enjoy the stunning mountains in both summer and winter.
