    ... the same streets we were walking, when the volcano erupted and ended the lives they knew.

    On the drive back to the hotel, Enrico took the slower coast road from Pompeii to the tunnels leading to Sorrento. The views are beautiful.

    The Farewell Dinner with the group tonight was lots of fun at the Circolo dei Forestieri (the Foreigners' Club) .

    Sorrento was one of my favourite little coastal cities. After the hectic and somewhat disastrous epic trip (the circumvesiama - a city rail train similar to one that might go to mt druitt was Interesting to people watch for the hour we were on it to get to the coast) to get there we were gladly surprised that we picked such a nice place to stay.     ... to peer into the crater which still has a constant cloud of steam coming from it. According to our guide they don't believe that it is due for another big eruption for another 400-500 years. They do however monitor it every day and have worked on an evacuation plan that would attempt to evacuate the 700,000 people who live in its shadow.     ... we didn’t make our dead line? That didn’t really bother me. Genoa is but a train journey away. What really bothered me was that if we missed the ship, we would miss out on the draw at the casino tonight for a bottle of champagne. You had to be present to collect your prize!!! Roisin was on a roll. It would be a shame to miss out at this late stage!!
