From the border checkpoint, it took only 17 minutes to drive into the old city of Famagusta, a major port with 30,000 residents that is one of the north’s principal cities. We parked at 3:44 and walked around the old city for about an hour and a half, viewing the Lala Mustafa Pasa mosque and walking atop the city’s Venetian walls.
