up about 6a.m. pretty windy outside this morning. When I went out our 2 camp chairs had tipped over an our small grill. Nothing too bad. We put the rest of the stuff away- checked all our locks and steps and headed out. A pretty boring straighforward drive today.South on highway 35 to HIghway 70. One small incident today. In Illinois there is quite a bit of construction. Well ...
Lawrence, Kansas, United States mernmb... in an enclosure that border a busy street, completely visible to guests and the animals. We talked about how the chaos of sirens and lights, horns, people, etc must affect the animals. It didn't seem right. We could also see the side and back of houses from the path close to the lions. I wonder how they feel about their proximity to the zoo.

We also noticed that the wooden fencing along the path had signs every so often that explained that the fencing had been built by ...
Topeka, Kansas, United States 2olivesOne hundred and eight miles! The weather cooperated especially after last night, we had the tornado sirens going off and they brought the second floor guests down to the first floor hallway. Lot's of thunder and lightning along with the rain. The morning looked great but as the day warmed sodid the clouds and toight should be interesting. Last nights half way ...
Topeka, Kansas, United States bot989A short driving day today - about 3 1/2 hours, to Perry, which is just west of Topeka. Sherry and Joe, old friends of Greg's from 20-some years ago when he worked in Custer, South Dakota, had asked that we stop for a visit on our way past, and we are SO glad we did, because we had a wonderful afternoon and evening with them. We parked the motorhome in Slough Creek Park, next to Lake Perry, and they came to see the "house ...
Perry, Kansas, United States pykesonthego... Hickok out drawed any sucker who challenged him to a gunfight, where Buffalo Bill began a hunt that nearly made an entire species extinct, where General Custer made his last stand at the Battle of Little Bighorn, where the US 7th Cavalry massacared over 200 men, women and children at Wounded Knee, where Chief Sitting Bull was killed by his own people and where Clint Eastwood kicked the **** out of Lee Van Cleef.
Kansas, Kansas, United States gary_cailin... raised the banners for Big 12, Final Four, and 2008 National Championship. Also, props to Scottie for saving us a spot in line. Favorite quote of the night goes to P-Man: "That (banner raising/video/crowd reaction) ranks right below the birth of my two kids and right above my wedding as far as life events" as he was looking for a tissue to dry his tears.
Lawrence, Kansas, United States gringowithdrawl... saw some oil wells. They look a lot smaller than the ones on TV. Maybe those are in Texas. As they say; everything's bigger in Texas. We did stop for some ice cream. DQ banana splits. We had dinner at Red Robin even though there was a Denny's in town. Our Waiter/bartender Brandon Hall is also a biker. He rides an 03 red Honda Shadow 750 Spirit. Erin and Randa our hostesses offered some ...

Topeka, Kansas, United States trekker2... This of course deviated another orifice that naturally occurs in that area. He was not alone though... his companion had five legs. This one was like a dorsal fin, just a limp leg hanging behind his head. So this farm also boasted that it had the largest prairie dog in the world..., which turned out to be some made concoction. Notice the easter egg if you will.... I strolled through ...
Topeka, Kansas, United States haolegirlWe left NYC on July 26th - Had lunch with Todd at the Country Kebab then went to the closing -- right after the closing we went to our former home, picked up our last remaining belongings, spent a wonderful 45 minutes with Parham, and headed to the airport for the first of many flights to follow. Our first stop - Kansas! We spent about two and a half weeks relaxing at the 'Barnett Resort' and catching up with Eddie's family. During our stay we spent lots of time swimming ...
