The first stop was a small school in the town where we were entertained by some children with handicraft displays, presentations about their area, music performances and a tour of their school. We really enjoyed their company during the short time we were there.

... monastery is a fortified complex of churches which was founded in 1397 by St Cyril. The complex is located on the banks of Lake Siverskoye. In the 12th and 13th Century, this area was extremely remote (it still is). We were told many of the men who joined the monastery walked all the way here from Moscow. Even now, one could see why the area appealed to men who sought a life of solitude and service to God.
