Monemvasia is a town and a municipality in Laconia, Greece. The town is located on a small island off the east coast of the Peloponnese. The island is linked to the mainland by a short causeway 200m in length. Its area consists mostly of a large plateau some 100 metres above sea level, up to 300 m wide and 1 km long, the site of a powerful medieval fortress. The town walls ...

Our goal today was to upload pictures from the past two days, then walk into the town and hike to the top of the hill into the Old Town. ...

We slept a little later then headed to Monemvasia via the Mani Peninsula. The views along the Mani were spectacular with several stone villages set on hills with the sea sweeping dramatically below. Several ancient churches had splendid murals, which are still visible. We stopped long enough to hike up the side of a hill, but when the going got too steep, we decided to play it safe and retreat. We stopped in ...

... of course she was still Helen of Sparta. The Troy bit came later. For some unknown reason I did not take a photo of the island!? Also saw ancient amphitheatre in Gythion center. Looks very neglected. If you look very carefully to the left of the first picture you can just see some of the scenery from the last panto! Even the script was ...
