... this area so friendly. Families were all speaking to us and getting their children to say "hello'. We met a lovely old lady on the bridge in Changsha who told me I was beautiful and desperately wanted to have her photo taken with us. This is an area where they see many Chinese tourists, but very few foreigner tourists.
A really fantastic day, and definitely the highlight of our holiday for me!
We went to the Chen Clan Academy this mornng, stunning architecture. This was a temple built by the Chen family members where their youngsters could come and study for their examinations. A fabulous building going 3 courtyards back. There was a lovely museum with a reconstruction of a Guangzhou house and artworks.
After we disembarked from the night train we checked into the Westin and then made our way to Yuexiu Hill to visit Sun Yat Sen Monument and the Ming Dynasty Zhenhai Tower (Guangzhou Museum).
We then caught a taxi to Shamien Island, a lovely restored area of Guangzhou, full of colonial buildings, wide avenues and street scene ...
... Not that we understand how or why things are done, but we just shrug our shoulders and say, "That’s life in China." We had another bad spell with our Internet service and had 2 service men to our apartment. Fingers crossed; it’s working better now, but that could chance in a minute!

The semester is at least at a close and work for us foreign teachers has come to a halt. All of our classes have been called off and it was up to us to keep ourselves busy. I’ve done my best getting ready for my upcoming trip, picking up mandarin, learning code, and prepping for life in Europe. All in attempts to break lethargy when it comes creeping up.
