... with the usual bars & coffee houses.
I did like the Old Strathcona area of south Edmonton, this was the restored original settlement area that now bustled with students and other Edmontonians, mostly along Whyte Avenue. Here we found good cafés, restaurants, shops and bars.
Whilst staying at the hostel we met some interesting characters, a strung out hippy who urged us to go to Vancouver Island and eat magic ...
... parks a water park and thousands of shops. But being a backpacker you quickly learn to avoid shopping!
On the Saturday we drove to a holiday home on a lake which Jude's husband Dwight owns with his siblings. Several friends and other family members were there to celebrate Jude's birthday. That evening we had great food, drink and conversation. I tried a Caesar which is a Canadian Bloody Mary and had Canadian sirloin steak which is a regional speciality. The night ended late ...
... to the thunk of early morning woodpeckers at work. The sun was bright enough to thaw my water before dehydration became critical.
As the day warmed up, I ran into a few more locals. Every track I tried had at least one bison on display, and I was delighted to spot a pair of coyotes wandering across a small lake. I don't think they knew I was around, unlike the pack of five I saw in the afternoon, who spotted me at 200 meters and trotted off in disgust.

Only nine more sleeps till we leave! Edmonton, Alberta, Canada steveandnadine... with my Mom and Dad, let alone what the country was up to. So what has changed? I guess my social conscience. Over the past year, I have been feeding on a steady stream of information from various sources. Documentaries have been a remarkable gateway for me. I find them fascinatingly motivational. My local tea shop holds a weekly screening of gripping documentaries which lead to heated discussions. The internet has been quite helpful in ...
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada whereshegoesWell actually it wasn't anything Horrible, I would still like to return to Colombia one day because i figure my trip is not finished there... It was sorta several things really. A)i had gotten a stomach parasite on a 36 hour bus ride from lima to Guayaquil Ecuador, Which Caused a fair amount of discomfort, But would never be enough For me to go home, and i had been trying to figure out what it was and taking random medicine in Colombia. B)i Got ...
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada senorbrian... to Guangzhou (Canton) and then took a bus to Macao. From there I sailed to Hong Kong and a few days later (after meeting Ed again, by chance (not complete chance)) flew to Singapore. I wanted to dive again and the airline staff let me bump my flight back a week. I had a great time there and in Malaysia, but realised that I don't want to travel alone anymore. After a week I was on my way to Germany. I did a bit of travelling around there and ...
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada fatduck... should be arriving tomorrow, but if for some reason that is delayed, I might be in trouble. I couldn't get the visa any earlier because they have a 6 month limit on tourist visas, and I'm going for 5 and a half months. If I would have applied earlier for the visa, it might have been approved early, thereby forcing me into staying illegally late at the end of my trip. Makes for stress, but it's too late to change the plan now. My next entry should be from Delhi.
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil anderwatts... comedians. There was a super tasty authentic Greek food restaurant that served up spicy falafels, donairs drenched in sweet sauce and kalamari with tzatziki. It was so good that even as I was still licking my saucy fingers, I was planning on how many times I could eat there over the next couple days. I love seeing wildlife and there was plenty of that. Its very common to see bears and dear wandering around the golf course. I was thrilled to have seen a ...
Fairmont, British Columbia, Canada whereshegoes... watch the numbers go up and up and up. I thought it was only supposed to go up to fourty Celcius but nooooo. Not this time. I watched go between 44-46 and that is not including the fact that I was only one foot away from the steam. I just about died. I thought my heart was going to pop right out of my chest and started getting a little dizzy. I was pretty convinced that the instructor, who is ...
