Carretera Panamericana Sur, desvio Puquio kms 3-4, Cantalloc Nasca, Peru, +51-56-522264
After the trip to the Islas Ballistas we hit the road again heading towards Nazca. We got further away from the sea and started to go up into the mountains. The colours of the desert mountains on the way varied from pink to green depending on the sunlight. It was an almost lunar or martian landscape. Unfortunately, the air-co in the bus broke down, so it is even hotter inside than outside. It was quite a long trip. So far, the quality of the roads are good, at least on the Panamerican highway...
Nazca, Peru leprefrog... mogen zetten.

Nazca, Ica, Peru acidnam... terminal shouted across, he`s ok, he`s safe, I know him. He had a municipal city sticker on so we parted our patience and jumped in the back for a ride into the desert. As we left the outskirts of town and hung a left into the barren desert I looked nervously across at our drivers glove compartment, imagining a gun inside. We were in the middle of no-where and it could have quite easily have been us that ended up mummified in the desert instead.<br ...
Chauchilla, Ica, Peru alberto66If you´ve read the previous blog entry you´ll have learned that I knackered out Nadine´s camera and so for the Nasca Lines we used the backup camera and I forgot to bring it to the internet cafe to upload the pictures. Nasca, Peru nadineandduncan... 1940s, when Maria Reice a German born archaeologist, really brought the Nazca lines to public attention.

We arrived in Nazca early in the morning and as we were starving and heard not to do the flight just after eating we decided to take an afternoon flight. We wandered Nazca, which as mentioned before is not the most exciting place, just a town in the middle of the desert facilitating the tourists coming through to see the lines. Before the ...
Nazca, Ica, Peru eugenecash... War One trenches and hopping over the ditches with full backpacks is exciting!

Nasca is a growing town in this god-forsaken wilderness. It’s is a one trick pony, famous for the lines that were created by the ancient Nascans 1800 years ago. The lines depict animals (most of which are not endemic to this desert) such as monkeys, hummingbirds, parrots and herons and also geometric lines that seem to run at random. All the lines are enormous and plainly ...
Nasca, Peru suenson_taylors... guy, a biker riding from Costa Rica and his new girlfriend Veronica whom he met in Medellin Colombia. They have been travelling together on his bike for a few months and they are a great couple - very fun and funny. We met them trying to find a hotel in Nazca and we went out to dinner with them and had some Sangria and beer - a nice night out.
Nazca Peru, Ica, Peru courtrandNazca is home to its world-famous lines, so that's the big attraction here. Other than that, there’s not a whole lot to commend it. I had yet to develop a taste for the desert, so my appreciation for the landscape was little. To get the killer view you take a fly-over, but I could hardly justify the expense, so just climbed the tower to see what I could see. I guess the ...
