November 2008 Thanks to a lot of blogs about Namibia and different guides, we have chosen 11 places to stay during our trip... We have booked all the rooms now not to have any bad surprises... It was very easy to book online directly with the lodges by email... I hope my choices are right, I'll tell you when I will be there... Globally, the price is an important reason to choose some places, but as I don't want to do camping, I have only chosen lodges and guest houses... Such a difficult thin...
Windhoek, Namibia ludivine.mornetOkay, definitely Hayden's favourite place so far!! The ride to Canon Roadhouse was just under 70km, but we had a really good day on the road. Remember, we are travelling dirt roads now, but the dirt roads in Namibia are fantastic and seem to be graded often. We really enjoyed our Cokes when we got to the Roadhouse though. I cannot say enough about Canon Roadhouse from the food to the ablutions to the people who work here. We've stayed here 4 nights and would probably stay a lot longer if the ...
Fish River Canyon, Namibia sallygirlAfter a slight detour down into the Fish River Canyon, we realized that the place we were staying wasn't actually in Ai Ais, but along the canyon rim about 60 km away. We arrived at Canyon Roadhouse Lodge and Camping about 2 hours before sunset, set up camp, jumped into the pool, got attacked by flies, changed into dry clothes, treated ourselves to dinner at the lodge, and headed off to bed. The only amazing moment was the sunset we caught as we headed back to our tent. The clouds broke right...
Ai Ais, Namibia tomlinejThe distance from Cape Town to Victoria Falls is a whopping 5,300 km. (almost 3,300 mi.) and there are at least two long drives and today is one of them. From Citrusdal to the Namibian border is 520 km. (323 mi.) and then it is another 100 km. (62 mi.), of which the last 82 km. (51 mi.) is on a hard packed gravel road to our destination tonight.

The temperature is cool when we depart at 7:30 AM under a high overcast sky. We pass one orange ...
Fish River Canyon, Namibia boydandroseMonday, September 7, 2009
Fish River Canyon, Namibia

Today entailed a long day of driving. We sat in the back and played epic games of Hearts and Euchre. When we finally arrived to Fish River Canyon we went straight to the canyon to watch the sun set. It was beautiful and felt good to stretch our legs. While we watched the sunset Anthony had driven the truck ...
Fish River Canyon, Namibia claraz8... all sand but again each step felt like 2 because the sand was loose and along the way saw a few cars stuck. The dead lake/sea looked like a scene from a movie and supposedly they filmed scenes of the Cell (which sucked) here. It's basically a white cracked ground with dead trees but very picturesque. On the back we saw a family of Gemsbock which are big antelope with long straight antlers and I think they are the best looking of the antelopes I've seen. The car was a welcome ...
Fish River Canyon, Namibia mike_bright... Last year a person was stung to death by bees and one of the people had to hike out to get help so since then, you need insurance that covers being flown out by helicopter before you are able to do the hike.

Once the sun went down, we had a really good dinner that had Rocko's favorite desert of date balls and chatted around the campfire before heading to bed. We head to South Africa tomorrow and it is a really quick drive before we get to our next campsite.

Brett and Robin
Fish River Canyon, Namibia rockobatty... on the South African border.

The next day I went canoeing for 3 hours down Orange River while Leon stayed in bed watching 'Father Ted'! Canoeing was fun and relaxing. We spent the rest of the afternoon packing our bags as we had decided to leave our tour early so we could see a bit of Cape Town before we head to Nepal.
Fish River Canyon, Namibia leonnatmckenna... with my puffing and panting for the first 2 miles, encouraging me to go just that little bit further despite my protests of death being near. The last 2 miles I ran straight with no breaks. Go me. Will be doing marathons before I know it! Hahaaa. The scenery was great, rocky baron dessert with mountains in the distance. Running on road then dirt, no other sole around. Good start to the day. After the run Katherine and I went for a swim in the river. Tempting as it ...
Fish River Canyon, Namibia oliveramber... and some supply, we thought we would go check the place out anyway and in case just camp under a tree. I can't hide that we felt so proudly daring, and were looking forward to exploring the site, maybe so deserted we would skinny-dip in the hot springs under the waning moon, looked after by the Namibian stars. After driving for about an hour on a fun dirt road that cuts right into the dry Namibian plain, we finally get to Ai-Ais. A smiley guard comes talk to us and ...
