... I have plently of socks at home and will be home soon anyways, just wash them in the sink geez!). I ruined a few pairs at the farm, and others have worn holes through, so I decided to be thrifty and ask for a needle and thread. I fixed a loose button, and sat sewing my holey toes, laughing off Zia Tina's offers to do it for me. No no I say, I have a Nonna who sews, she showed me! That was enough to be given permission to continue. Nonna's sewing skills are legendary ...
Tropea, Calabria, Italy benitalutz... I cracked under the pressure! None of my clothes fit me, I'm swimming in my jeans and I look like a bum! So I... bought a pair of pants! What an ordeal it was!
Regardless, they are hanging on the line blowing in the wind, waiting to be beaten for the next two weeks.

This week I'll be hanging out where the roots grew, and then I'm going with Anna to Reggio Calabria where she attends university, for a few ...

Tropea, Italy elfra... much of the town is getting a face-lift. Streets, churches, town walls, piazzas, and even the castle are being renovated and improved. We spent hours simply strolling through the narrow streets (occasionally getting lost as they were quite confusing) taking note of the names on the doors. It was fascinating to see all the names of families that we know from home here at the source of their family roots. We came across, Sorbara, Furfaro ...
San Giorgio Morgeto, Italy meganandkevin... luckily, in the dark the other people can't see how shabbily we are dressed compared to them). We are staying in a private room rented to us by a local lady next to a restaurant underneath the arches of the oldest part of town. Capri is stunningly beautiful, the only downside is the vast numbers of people this beauty attracts. A large range of famous people have lived here for extended periods or made it their home, and we visited the home of Axel Munthe, a Swedish ...
Tropea, Calabria, Italy everardtTropea is a seaside town that is not really on the international tourist circuit. However it is a tourist hot spot for Italians. Gianluca recommended that we go there so Dad and I stopped there on the way down to Sicily. It was absolutely incredible! The water was crystal clear blue, the beaches covered in soft white sand and there was a rock shelf that you could jump off into the water ...
Tropea, Calabria, Italy giulianat... In 1993 the Italian language school in Tropea was founded originally as the Caffè Italiano Club. Then, in 2004, the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research Department officially recognised the school as an accredited Italian language school and the name was changed to the Piccola Università Italiana. The Piccola Università Italiana is one of the few certified ...

Then in 1800, with Alessandro Manzoni, came the linguistic unification of Italy and the Italian language was born - a new language that was not literary but commonplace and comprehensible to all. Italian is ...
Tropea, Calabria, Italy piccolauni... directions. I was almost playing charades with three Italian gentlemen just to figure out how to get there. When we arrived, the hotel had a "Shining" vibe to it and it was no surprise given that we were there during the low point of the tourist season. We also figured out we had no hot water and after a half hour or so figured out how to heat the room we headed back out to Tropea for dinner now that we knew our way around.
