... would be caused by heavy rains filling the creek. We saw a large spillway running through the town that is built to handle flooding. We met a workman on the grounds (repairing the concrete paths to prevent trips and falls) who claimed Kansas was a state of extremes - heat, wind, snow etc. Today is one of the high heat (94F) and high wind (50 miles and hr) days!

First of all, I forgot to show a picture of our full tent, which we had set up the 2 nights in Independence. Robert enjoyed the KOA as we had internet access and he could check the headlines and the obituaries from our local paper! (We also have Serius radio so that we can listen to the CBC to stay informed on the election and other news.)

... a.m! Pretty sure all reading this were still sleeping while all of this excitement was occurring. Happy to report that things are back to calm and we are more than halfway to Breckenridge. Mike's driving us through the flats of Kansas, Jeff is in the Co-Drivers seat, Alicia is taking a siesta along with two sleepy puppies. As for me, I'm going to sit back, chillax and enjoy the view, or paint my fingers or read a magazine or....... - let the adventure continue ...

... it’s interesting to see and really puts the Rocky Mountains into perspective.

By the time we reached Hill City, Kansas, we were ready for some lunch and Yelp led us to a really great place called Red’s Family Restaurant. They claimed to be famous for their pan-fried chicken and we were lucky enough to arrive on pan-fried chicken buffet day. We got the salad bar, buffet, and dessert for $8. Not bad ...

Shaw and Kit's was awesome. I really wish we could go there again. I really enjoyed the water balloon fight, playing in the sandbox, playing with their cats and dogs. They were super fun to play with and very nice, they let us play with their stuff, sleep in their room and fed us delicious food. Emi and Amaya were fun to play with. By ...
