In the mountains on the Bernina Express.

We arrived at Chur slightly later than was planned. The walk to the Hotel was a joy after being pent up in a rail carriage for nearly two days but some found it arduous as it was an uphill climb! Not very 'uphill' though ! We had a very quick 'comfort' break before dinner was served in what turned out to be a room occasionally used as a Freemason's Temple!!! Yuk !!!
However the dinner was very edible, very proficiently served and there was time afterwards to have a look around the oldest ...

Our Free Day at Chur.

Following the trip to Poschiavo we had a very good night's sleep. The mountain air worked wonders on our appetite and our well being! However, after a quick look around the beautiful old city, the oldest in Switzerland, we decided to take the little train up to the winter resort of Arosa.
Arriving at the station, just a short walk away from the hotel we found the Arosa train waiting for us. Hopping on this little 2/3 carriage train seemed rather quaint after so many quite huge set-ups. T...

We were planning to go to Liechtenstein but thought we may as well as it was sort of on our way. It's the worlds 6 smallest country so it would have been rude not to go..haha.

We didn't drive to the main town but to another.. where really there wasn't anything. I did get a photo with the tourist sign though. Had to somehow prove I'd been there!
... Feldkirch I got lost. Actually I was just trying to get to McDonald's because the group wanted a bathroom break and the public toilets here were not to our standards. Anyway, I drove past the McDonald's twice - once my fault and once the navigator's - and drove down a pedestrian only section of road before we gave up and continued on our journey out of town and deeper into Austria.

Olathe's sister city, Chur

We visited Olathe's sister city, Chur, Switzerland, today. Very, very cool - it's been settled for close to 5,000 years! One of the items I presented to them on behalf of the city of Olathe was a plate commemorating our 150th birthday and a book illustrating our first 150 years; almost felt a little "young" in light of their history.

We were greeted by Peter Laube, head of Tourism for Chur, and Markus Frauenfelder, Chur City Manager ...

It is closed to the public but sits right next to a public road so I walked along the road to get a good look, then continued along the road up a hill a bit further so I could get a nice view.

I navigated my way back down to the city below and checked out some of the shops ...

Day 6 - Furka Pass and St Bernadino Pass

... the top and then blasting down the other side. Hardly any photos taken but the weather was closing in, at the bottom we had a brief problem concerning the rest of the route and, despite my best intentions, ended up on the motorway. As it happened the heavens opened at this point and I was glad to spend half the journey underground in a tunnel. On arriving at the hotel we found a slight error had occurred and we were a room short. Simon and Shaun had ...

Rolling into Switzerland

... was very untidy. Somebody might have taken a mower to it occasionally although a goat would not have been out of place. The whole was a rainbow of colours with onion shaped domes on each corner and brightly coloured tiles encompassing the columns. He was not a man who believed in colour coordination...more of a discordination. He should have designed clothes. What a different fashion world that might have been. As it turned out he had turned his hand to other outlets. Painting ...

... finished our walk this morning the weather turned cloudier and cooler. We came back upstairs to our room for a little rest. I can’t believe that I’m still tired, even after being outside and walking around, so I lay down for about an hour. After our little break, we headed out (once more) to tackle the mountain behind the hotel. Just to get to the paths up to the mountain, I was huffing and puffing (have to note here that Bev took advantage of each rest stop ...
