A travel blog entry by jpshoop on Nov 10, 2014

Day 1: Herndon, VA - Chicago, IL I love driving on road trips. (Hence why I'm driving the Great River Road by myself for vacation). I also love driving super early in the morning while everyone else is still asleep. It is so quiet and peaceful. This morning began around 3:15 AM and I was on the road by 4 AM. Leaving Herndon behind and listening to the weather reports of Wisconsin and Minnesota. 2 feet of snow and below zero temperatures ...

I'm feeling much better about my itinerary and the travel nerves have eased up a bit since yesterday. Partly because of all of your thoughtful words of wisdom, and partly because I'm feeling more organized for this trip. (A big thank you to my wonderful Mamma Mia who took about 42 phone calls from me today) My most exciting news of the day is that I decided to do a Rick Steve's ...

... that had some cheap name brands. I'm not going to go on about our shopping experience but what I must say is that our lunch stop was the most interesting. We went to McDonald's but this was like nothing I'd ever seen. As you can see in the picture, the drink was a MEDIUM (and it could be refilled). The portion sizes were crazy and needless to say, it was a colossal effort to finish it. The rest of the day was spent in the Jelly ...
