      The Longest Day Begins

A travel blog entry by traveled on Aug 23, 2014

This Friday was my Friday off at work. Thank goodness because I had a ton of preparation to do for this vacation. It was only to be two weeks long, but wanting to pack light for weather that would be fairly cold (meaning heavier clothes) and rainy had some challenges. I spent most of the day doing laundry, dishes, taking out the trash, and other chores, along with packing. Later ...

... a local Texas barbecue joint--"finally!" per Milo our meat eater. Afterward, we swam in the hotel pool.

We didn't even take any pictures today. Is there nothing interesting to report? Perhaps. Just south of here is a place called "Nederland", which is the Dutch way of spelling "Netherlands" and was founded by Dutch settlers. Still, however, ...

Left Kathy & Glens after breakfast, seems weird that the next time we see them will be in France! We'd talked with them and it seems that downtown Houston is just a city with some art galleries and museums and the best thing to see would be NASA space centre. Trouble is it is way south of the city so off we go to fight with the traffic again. We don't get there till after 12 and we hadn't reckoned on all the children - it was mid term break, ...

... Houston about 4:15 and going in was OK, but then we had to drive through and out. That put a crimp in our time, but not too badly. There was only one time when we actually had to stop. By the time we left Houston in the rear view, it was close to 6pm and getting dark, but we kept pushing on.

We arrived at Gulf Coast RV Resort in Beaumont about 7pm and had to hook up in the dark, but we did and got everything inside settled. Now it's time for a good night sleep.
