... Maple Leafs 3-0. Funny tthat we had to come all the way to Mexico to watch hockey. Karl ordered a beer and good fortune was on our side - it was 2 for 1! After the game we played a card game they translated for us as 'One'. Clever Karl figured out they were talking about Uno.
Settled in well and are off to Cuba today.
... the food we brought to Stan and some other lady. one of the ladies upstairs gave us 2 free passes to Coco Bongo (a show/club) valued at $50 a ticket. we then wait for dad to pack up his stuff, and we go to the sunset resort, the main hotel of his company. we see the workout room, ocean, pool, and we have a nice dinner in the atrium restaurant. when we arrive at the restaurant, dad calls the girls he met a few days prior, and they come down to talk with us a little. the dinner was ...
Cancun, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico aaronstimmel... K’, Jon Marshall and his sister visit for a night and day and it reaffirms how great this place is as I give the ole tour. My Dad even said the other day that he would love to be able to visit Weimar again before I leave. So everyone else clearly seems to enjoy it too. It will be strange to leave Deutschland behind, but after all of the stuff going on, you realize that being across an ocean has its major disadvantages.
I hope ...
... it{s yearly cycle with super modern precision. They also tracked lunar and solar cycles with more accuracy then we do today and could predict eclipses. We ran out of time just before we could see the Tampotzli (row of skulls), the giant ball court and the sacred cenote, so we gave the guard the slip and ran into the forest! Ha ha! The ball court was insanely huge, one of the biggest I believe. The Ball Game was very important to the Mayans though not very well ...
Cancun, Mexico glassman... many U-turn (or left turn) opportunities. Not to mention that you'll have to be in the left lane in order to do the U-turn, driving 80km/h. If you try to slow down to take the sandy spot between the two trees you'll upset the driver behind you that is already on your bumper and he'll try to cut around you. I waited for a real turnaround opportunity and got really lost going into Cancun at night, then drove in the direction of the airport and then finally found my way back to ...

Cancun, Mexico agnesdaria... Deciding to join the party, we embraced the night and ended up making friends whose hotel room seemed like a good way to kick off our first night in Cancun, which conveniently was the all-nighter for which we had been yearning. I took a picture from the view of the hotel room, which seemed surprisingly Americanized for Mexico. Nevertheless, the sunrise was the postcard worthy wait we had imagined. The remaining days would be a test of a man's endurance ...
Cancun, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico beachbumaxp... Independance Day itself! I went on a tour to the local Chiapas Indian villages, on the outskirts of San Cristobal, and while it does at times feel a bit intrusive, our guide spoke the local languages (many of the Chiaps people do not speak Spanish), so he was able to talk freely with the locals, and they seemed happy for us to be there (i'm sure that a cut of our tour fee may well have had something to do with that!) The most interesting, albeit gruesome part of the day ...
Oaxaca to Cancun, Mexico markcaswellOur last couple of days, we spent in Cancun and Cozumel. Cancun seemed to be like any other big city. There was a American fast food everywhere. Blah! Everyone spoke English. Maybe it was all the drunk American students that seem to run the place. It was pretty disappointing after being in the more quaint towns.
