The beanie is king...

... though. Firstly, I came to see the pace covered in snow and the river, canals and the Gulf of Finland frozen over. Doesn't look like this is going to happen until January as it's been an unusually warm December. That being said, the temperature is hovering around 0 (I think -3 has been the coldest so far). The best and worst thing though has been the daylight. You don't start getting even a smattering of light in the sky until about 9:30am, then it's pitch dark at 4:30pm. In between ...

... training unit. They have used the students studying building to construct a crime scene house with a walkway through the middle and viewing gallery from roof level looking down. This allows staff to observe without being intrusive.

Steve took me over to UC to look at the facilities there and I observed a group of overseas students in the laboratory. The facilities here are again good and ...

I have found out the Bahrain is an island. This is a start... Where is it? In the middle of the Gulf next door to Saudi Arabia and Qatar and it's neighbouring Arabian countries... So it's in the middle east - Bahrain. Bahrain, I keep ...

Canberra, the capital of Australia

... inside. Then I went on to Parliament House. The current one is built into a hill, literally. You can walk up the hill and be on the second floor of the building. Of course, you can't go inside up there because you have to pass through security. And it doesn't look like much from the outside, but the building is actually very impressive. It's actually 5 buildings, with a total of 8,000 rooms, all ...

Canberra and the Great Ocean Road!

After the excitement of Tricia's visit and our stay in Sydney, we decided to head south towards the Great Ocean Road. Instead of our usual route down the coast, we instead, settled on driving inland and west toward Canberra. The roads inland were inevitably long and somewhat desolate -- we spent many quiet evenings in small rest areas on the side of the road. We stopped at Nan Tien Temple before beginning our long treck ...

... was on our route to the Australian War Memorial, so we mooched through and had a gander. The Australian War Memorial by the way is superb. As I've mentioned before, I'm a bit of a Military History buff, so things like this are always high on my list of things to see and do. However, I am indeed one of them Liberal types (apologies again to my American friends) and destest any sort of war, violence etc. Saying that, I do think it important ...

A V-a-a-a-n Named Bryan!

... the whole night, but many stayed longer than would be needed for a toilet stop. A lot of furtive looking blokes were hanging about the toilets. Basically, we were at a cottaging site. Wonderful. We drew the curtains and tried not to think about it. We made the nutritionally dubious but useful for using up left-overs meal of chip butties, then to bed. The following morning, we gave the van a good sweep round, then dropped it at the depot just outside Melbourne.

Canberra - The city of walking

... though. To their revenge the Scandinavian food tent was well populated. They sold Swedish food (don't know exactly what but something with herring is a good guess) and Danish beer. Nothing from the other Nordic countries what I could see. The stands sold small portions for $5 each, which I though was good because you could eat from many different places. But soon enough I was full anyway and focused on more important multicultural, bridge building, rejuvenating, B ...
