Everyone is so welcoming in the Pro Shops and anyone can walk down & watch play on #18 at the Links, we were very surprised. (Quite a difference from Sawgrass in Florida, they wouldn't let us inside the gate until a couple hours before our tee time). I guess that is why we felt we did not have to play to enjoy ...

... in a canned food coma stared at The Pacific Ocean. When it was dark we brushed and flossed our teeth. Then we pinned the curtains, drove into one of the more affluent costal side-streets of Santa Cruz, parked amongst the cars and drifted off to sleep. At 5am we drove back to the beach and made our plans for the next few days, booking one night in an RV park in Monterey and two nights in Big Sur close by the Henry Miller Museum.

... in the "valet parking" area. It was not monitored by anyone. They probably thought no one would be nervy enough to park there. They haven't met Bob!

We asked about green fees and were told the regular rate was $495 a round. Also, you need to get a caddy which is another $150. We declined when asked if we wanted to book a tee time.

Instead, we headed to Monterey Pines ...

... creek and showed Bobby. Gilly, in addition to clarinet, is now playing tennis and Mike is teaching her the killer moves as he played at the college level. Marianna has done a great job with this brood of kids. Hats off to both Marianna and Mike. This was not easy and they have done a great job. ... from the beach but their front yards are all sand dunes with tufts of grass in them. Didn't look very nice.
After that we went on to Carmel, somewhere I have wanted to visit for years. Clint Eastwood used to be the Mayor there and at one time owned a bed and breakfast there but he was sued a couple of times for not having a disabled ramp so ended up selling it. He still owns a bar in town and if he is in town on a Thursday he plays the Piano ...
