... through the Welsh countryside as we had put the country route into the sat nav, this was very pretty and challenging. We went along tiny country roads next to streams and country cottages with the occasional village and up over mountains with sheep on steep slopes so high you could barely make them out. Because we were close we we took a slight detour and found the train station with the longest name just for a photo opportunity. ...

... by mistake!) and then, after another lunch break, there was considerably more scrambling (Grade 1) on the way up Y Lliwedd. Coming down Lliwedd was somewhat harder and steeper than some of us could remember, but we were down by Llyn Llydaw by the time the serious rain began. From there it's an easy walk back to Pen y Pass and some hot drinks in the cafe while waiting for the bus back to Llanberis. A fairly long day in testing conditions - so much so in ...

We found a spot by the little beach, right opposite Raglan Street where we lived when we first moved there after the war. Glandwr was pretty much as I remembered it and was in quite good condition. We drove to Llanddona ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Can-y-Bae Llandudno
Superb service
The Can-Y-Bae is on the promenade of Llandudno, an unassuming building from the outside, it is a well appointed and artistically decorated hotel on the inside.
I booked over the phone and was sent a brochure and confirmation - very unusual for a small hotel! Upon arrival I was given a very warm and friendly reception and, once checked in, my bags were carried up to my room for me. All the rooms facilities were explained and my host was helpful in giving me directions to where I was working the following day.
My room was clean and well decorated and smelled very fresh. Little details like bottles of complimentary spring water and mints as well as the usual refreshments were a lovely touch. I was also pleased to see an iron and ironing board as well as the ubiquitous trouser press! The bathroom was very fresh and clean with good quality toiletries.
I could have eaten very reasonably at the in house restaurant - three courses for £13.00 with a choice of menu was very reasonable - but I had not much appetite, so I opted for a quick sandwich in the town centre. There was also room service available at reasonable prices.
The bed was very comfortable and combined with the sea air I had a wonderful night's sleep. Breakfast comprised buffet choice of cereals, fruit etc followed by freshly cooked English (or Welsh!) breakfast. The service was excellent - all the staff are polite, friendly and are dressed in hotel uniform making a very good impression. I was impressed by the check out service too - a friendly chat upon leaving is always welcome.
Altogether a very pleasant stay and I was very impressed, especially as I only paid £35 including breakfast. I also liked the shoe polishing machine in the hall which is a quirky yet practical addition! A tasteful hotel where customer service obviously is top of the agenda!
Fantastic Hotel
i have been a few times before to this hotel which has always been great but decided to take my two nieces with me who are 6 and 15. The hotel is excellent and the standard is 5 star. The rooms, facilities and food are fanatstic
The hotel is situated in the right place for a short walk to the great orm, shops, theatre and other attractionse. The theatre is just five minutes up the road.
Will be going again in August look forward to seeing Dave and Mike again then
A trip I will never forget :)
I had previously read existing reviews concerning the Can-Y-Bae, and it was these reviews that persuaded me to chose the Can-Y-Bae as my place of residence during an easter break in March. On arrival my first impressions of the hotel were very good. The reception and lounge area are neatly furnished and provide a sea-view for a tasty bite to eat. Check-in took a matter of minutes and I was shown to my room by one of the managers (Michael). I was staggered at the complete cleanliness of my large en-suite room. The views were to die for, and the complimentary tea, coffee and hot chocolate went down a treat! After a hot shower, I went into the dining room for what turned out to be a 5* meal. David's cooking skills are exceptional and I only wish they did food deliveries to Birmingham!!!
The breakfast choice was outstanding and I was guranteed not to leave hungry! I also found the theatre-themed bar area a positive feautre and the price and variety of drinks was very favourable.
Overall, this hotel was complete value for money, the hosts were exceptional and treated every customer need with high regard. I will most definitely be returning in the summer for an extended period. I would like to thank David and Michael for the exceptional standards set and look forward to seeing you again as soon as possible!
Fantastic Easter Break
My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a short break over Easter. The first thing to strike us was the pride that the proprietors took in ensuring our stay was superb. The level of cleanliness was high, the food exquisite, the service impeccable and the ambience friendly and relaxing. This was, no doubt, the first of many visits.
Wonderful break!
What a wonderful break, an ideal place to get away from the stresses of everyday life. Spotlessly clean, excellent sea-views, cosy bar with a wide choice of drinks. Absolutely fantastic breakfasts and the evening meals were of paramount quality (and also great value for money!).
The managers Michael and Dave make wonderful hosts and NOTHING was too much trouble. A helpful hand was always offered and they have great knowledge of the area and tourist attractions. Thanks to the both of you and your staff for making my stay so enjoyable ! ! !
Excellent!
We stayed here for a weekend break and were delighted with the hotel. The room was spotlessly clean, comfortable and stylish with nice touches such as complimentary mineral water. I had a four poster room with a bay window with sofa for enjoying the seaview.
The service was great, nothing too much trouble, as said before in other reviews. All in all a great place to stay.
Can-Y-Bae short stay.
What a fab place to stay. Very comfortable, clean and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was scrumptious!
Cant wait to book our next short break. A great base to explore the surrounding area and lots to do close by.
Thanks to Dave and Michael.
Quality and comfort
Having read other people's reviews on Trip Advisor and other sites I was interested to check their accuracy. I was really pleased with this small seafront hotel in Landudno. I went on business for one night the first time and returned the following week for another business trip but this time with my elderly parents in tow for an overnight break. If this hotel passed my mum's cleanliness test you can rely on it !!
Michael is great 'front of house', very courteous and helpful, while David is turning out excellent breakfasts in the kitchen. I didnt sample the evening meals but the menus looked very promising. Nice comfortable lounge area with lovely sea views, small bar with comfy settees and books. Bedrooms really well appointed and spotlessly clean, nice crisp white bedlinen. Fantastic sea views from the front bedrooms. And all for £35 per night b and b even for sea view room. I was given a twin room with sea view for little more.
Lift makes property accessible for disabled/older guests
Almost next door to the Venue Cymru theatre.
These owners are really trying hard to offer a comfortable hotel and I would happily recommend to others.
Lovely
I was very impressed with the location, cleanliness and customer service at this hotel. The owner is most professional, polite and accommodating. The rooms are spotless and the location is smack bang in the centre of everything in Llandudno on the promenade overlooking the sea.
I ventured up the hill to a fantastic fish and chip shop which I believe is award winning and is called 'Fish Tram Chips'. It was scrumptious - melted in the mouth. The best I have ever had.
In short, I would recommend and stay at this hotel/guest house again. Very pleased indeed.
