Back to L'Escala

... by sangria which was followed by port. A very satisfying meal after a long day.

The following day loomed bright and beautiful. Milly had been regaling us with stories of hot chocolate and churros so we went in search of them – to no avail, but we did find that overnight a huge market had set up along the waterfront in L’Escala. There were plenty of bargains here, and it attracted a lot of customers from across the border in ...

... with the amazing view of the swimming pool only a few metres from the French doors of the unit with the sea only a little way beyond that. Stunning!

We decided to reorganize our luggage and pack only enough for the night away and leave the remainder in the room so there would be more room for Chris & Milly’s bags in the car. Things couldn’t have worked out better! It looked like our stay in L’Escala would be a real relaxing break.

chillin' in the mountains.....

... 1.6 Euros! (ok, fair enough, maybe you guys do have a point, but food and wine are as key to the french culture as the medival ruins and churches) So, anyways, back to the care.....I figured a bottle of red and a bottle of white (ugh, now i have billy joel in my head for the rest of the night.....) but Jason, being the practical english man that he is, thought it better to get a bottle of white (and mind you when i ...

Wait...it keeps getting more beautiful!

... or stamp our passports, which was sad. The little town we visited in the south of France was also basically perfect. Sun, sea, beautiful little church, good lunch. Words really aren't enough to describe this different kind of reality I encountered on this trip. See pictures below-it was wonderful. And the few French people I met (the waitress....) did not seem to hate me, which is always nice.

... Sauveur. Next up
is the Col De Tourmalet (2115m), a mountain climb which needs no introduction. After a bit of
souvenir shopping at the top (where there is also a great café with some interesting Tour de
France artefacts), we descend to St Marie De Campan, and from here to our hotel in Campan.

... for the forestry commission and was just doing his rounds of the forrest. Oh well, bit of excitement for the day, just glad I didn't call the Gendarmarie!

Oh well, onwards and upwards, literally.

Today is day 47 of the trek and there are 50 in total. I haven't had a rest day as yet and am feeling strong and fit enough to keep going. Hope to enjoy a few days on the beach before flying back on the 16th.

Dalí's Imaginary World

We made it! 1327 km in ONE day! And we started late... Must say that I got fed up with Italian highway at Genoa and arriving in France was a real relief...

Driving through France was fun. We saw a space ship in a distance - some strange lights up in the sky, blinking at us at an oval shape... After doing some hard thinking we figured out they ...

Costa Brava - Tossa de Mar, Girona

I take a bus to Tossa de Mar, a small beach resort on the way to France. It is along the Costa Brava where the hills meet the coast making for some dramatic landscape. My thought was to use a luggage check, explore the town. I have a reservation for a hostel in Girona for the evening so I have to catch the 5:00 bus. Well, apparently much of Western Europe lacks baggage lockers. I go to a hotel and they refuse to take it for the day (even for ...

We made it

... beginning. We made to Ripoll in good shape then I headed us out of town in the wrong direction. After a quick correction we were back into another small climb and then a long descent into Olot which was to be our end for today. As we pulled into Olot the clouds opend up and poured for a good half an hour. Luckliy we had found some shelter at a restaurant and we stayed dry. We had about 60km left to get to Girona. The last push was pretty ...
