Halloween & a new travel companion!

... we would be joined by Kristina’s mother Renate.

The first impressions of Edmonton were good, but this was mostly due to the deep disappointment we had felt towards all of the other towns and cities we had seen since Montreal way back in August. But Edmonton has some character to it, and the streets are filled with people going about their daily business. Downtown is like that of any other western city, large glass office blocks ...

No Bears in Edmonton, but great hospitality!

... whistle was blown. If I wasn't so tired I would have felt terrible for Dana who had: "Never left a game early in all her years of supporting the Eskimo's!".

Friday I was supposed to play golf with Dave but he had taken ill and so I went and checked out West Edmonton Mall the biggest in north america (apparently it might now be 2nd biggest as another larger one has opened in the US but I couldn't verify that). Pretty amazing to see for a couple of hours as it houses a hotel, 2 ...

Where the buffalo roam

... it. I did my best.

I also discovered my next problem. There is no water supply in winter, but I had brought plenty. I had also carefully placed all my water bottles upside down so that the last water to be left liquid would be at the top when I turned the bottles back the right way. This is a good trick, but only with milder temperatures. As I still hadn't any cutlery, let alone water for the powdered milk, I ate my muesli dry with my fingers as the bare forests ...

My Voice My Vote - Use it or Lose it

... their male counterparts to make their mark in these types of professions. Therefore, I deducted, they deserved my vote. I know this reasoning was silly and irresponsible, but at 18, so was I. Besides, it was only a municipal election...how much did it really matter, right? When I traveled abroad, I didn't even know who the prime minister of Canada was anymore. I had lost complete track of anything that was going on back home. I barely even had ...

Edmonton

... 9 pm but it's still light out, so I went in and ate. Come out at quarter to 10 and pop the hood. WHADDAYA KNOW!!! There's a loose spark plug cable! D'oh!!! *smacks self in forehead* I can now truthfully say I spent a whole day not firing on all cylinders. AND I crossed the Rockies on that day too! Ah well. Alls well that ends well. Ask me later about the Speed ***** two doors down and on the ground floor of tonight's hotel later. I gotta go to bed. :o)

School Begins: Life on the Road Ends

... I could stay sane enough to make it home. I exaggerate. I wasn't enjoying myself and I decided that there was no point hanging around in China if I wasn't going to have any fun. At least, I decided, I should go somewhere I will have more fun. Air Canada, which I had my mother call in Canada, said that I could change my flight home from Beijing/Edmonton to Frankfurt/Edmonton. I was set. I spent about 10 days in Beijing and got something out of it. I ...

The Pan-Am Games

... an hour earlier than expected (only three hours late, in other words), and made it back to the familiarity of the Surco district of Lima eight hours or so later. I got to visit with my buddy Omar and see my crush Lucy again before I left, but after two days I arrived back in Edmonton, my trip over with. If all goes according to plan, I'll be leaving for India in a little over a week. I'm still waiting for my visa from the Indian consulate in Vancouver ...

Chillaxin in the Mountains

... have been happy to fish in the rain but the wind made it too uncomfortable. The river wasn't very clear anyway so I decided it just wasn't meant to be. The whole weekend was rather chilly and overcast so I read by the fireplace and took overfilled bubble baths in the Jacuzzi. I watched lots of cooking shows, Discovery Channel, and the last half of the Diary of Anne Frank. The comedy network had some funny acts which was a shocker for me as I am a tough crowd for ...

Death by Yoga

... half hour cat nap, then raced to the Bikram studio for 3pm. I had figured it would be a hard day after the less than optimal weekend I had. I really did stretch my limits and it appears I may pay for that. I didn't take my normal spot near the left wall but stayed near the right wall. Here I have clear view of the thermometer and I am thinking this is a bad thing. All I could do the entire class ...
