Day 10: Florence
... and the writer of the Divine Comedy. Come ON!! I geeked out a bit. Not to mention, the cathedral itself was stunning, as we the cloisters and courtyard outside. We headed back to the apartment and Mom cooked us a fantastic pot roast with potatoes, carrots, mushrooms, onions, and a salad. We enjoyed the delicious dinner around the large dining room table, sipped champagne, talked, laughed, and enjoyed the evening. Day 9: Florence
... out... but they were being sold illegally on the street, so he didn't get one. Pretty funny! We walked around the city a bit more, had a couple bottles of wine and a light lunch on our piazza by our apartment, and Brad and I went over and went inside the Duomo cathedral, which was absolutely beautiful. The dome itself was painted amazingly at dizzying heights, and the cathedral was as gorgeous as any we'd seen. We met back up ...
Assassino
... played Assassin's Creed II), I felt the need to climb to the summit. €8 enabled me to climb the winding and claustrophobic 463 steps of the cathedral. There are a couple of hidden atriums within the climb, one houses sculptures and another holds the outdated building tools used in the construction of the Duomo. Occasionally the foot traffic would halt to allow people passed the tight stairwells and narrow passages, ...
So many updates!
... and sculptures having to do with gelato. We went to a gelato-making demonstration, but it was all in Italian, so it was somewhat difficult to follow, but at least we gave it a try!
Later that day, we went to see the statue of David. (This was the 3rd day in a row that we attempted to go see David, might I add. Monday, we got there only to find out that the museum is closed on Mondays and Tuesday, the wait was an estimated 2 hours, so ...
Firenze in la raina
... of one single piece of marble. There are no words to describe this ultimate piece of art and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to see him up close and personal. As expected, photos are not allowed inside the museum but the city holds plenty of David replicas so I manage to grab one to return home with me.
