... and much much shorter, and I think the downwards journey was longer - though the ground on the descent was a bit more treacherous. The sky was threatening rain all day but luckily for us it waited until we were safely at Manarola. I would not like to be caught up the top when a storm hits - there is no shelter, and coming down is scary enough when its dry!

We didn't learn from yesterday and had another sleep in, but this time we didn't regret it. We had a nice relaxing morning, showering, charging our devices and researching our next movements. We went to the little store here on the campsite and bought some prosciutto, croissants, tomato and cream cheese and had a little lunch, then decided that we should explore the local area. In the main part of town, some of the buildings appeared to be “stained” by water marks, but unless one had seen it before, that could be attributed to normal wear on old buildings. I looked into some of the boarded up areas and there were lots of subtle signs of the damage.
