... past ornate cobblestone sidewalks, between houses whose fronts are covered in ornate tiles and filigreed wrought iron balconies. Rather than the public trolley, for this is a real trolley route; we had the unique experience of a private trolley ride. Aboard, we are served delicious Portuguese Port and the world famous custard-tart-like Pastries de Belem.

... from one hill (Alfama) down through the valley and up the other hillside (Beixa). Some streets are so narrow there is only room for the trolley, with the walls just a meter on each side of the car. We headed back to check out of our room at Solar dos Mouras. The staff was kind enough to watch our luggage forthe rest of the day until our 22:30 overnight train to Lisbon. That afternoon we took another train to Belem east of downtown to tour the Electicidade Museum ...
