    ... mixed with apple juice and apple brandy, and apple jelly. We got to taste the apple cider which I didn’t care for and the apple brandy (calvados) which was good. They have to call theirs apple brandy not calvados because they are not in the calvados district (like champagne). As you can tell from the photos they also had beautiful flowers everywhere.     ROUEN, MAY 31, 2015

    Today we are in Rouen and it is Mother’s Day in France. This holiday was started by Petin who was the head of the Vichy government in WWII. For this reason it is not widely celebrated.

    It is raining again after our beautiful day yesterday. We head out for Jumiege. Our short bus ride gives us the opportunity to learn some of the early history of this part of Normandy. ...
