... time on our Blog, we decided to visit the Île de Ré, a large island just off the coast reached by a 3km long bridge. There is a toll of €16 per car to cross to the island and no charge to return to the mainland. We had asked at the Office de Tourisme about what they suggest we look at and then we headed there in the afternoon. Mme GPS worked efficiently and got us to the bridge very easily. There are quite a number of villages on the island, a number ...

... La Rochelle was English until 1372 when the French took it over. Building of the Saint Nicolas tower began in the early 1300s and finished after the French took over and built two other towers as defence. It was used only a fortnight ago as the diving platform for the red bull diving event. Truly a multi purpose building! After the walk, we check out of the hotel, walk to the train station with our luggage where Rob's suitcase, bought hurriedly ...

It was so beautiful that I spent too long admiring it and didn't think to take a photo until the lights had been turned on. We could also hear fireworks ...

Having left Brugge, we drove as far as we could into France using the Autoroutes where deemed neccessary. After a good few hours of driving and still 4 hours to our house, we stopped off for the night south of Tours. We rose relatively early, in yet more drizzle, to drive to our friends Paul & Karen for lunch before the last and final hour to home.

Opening the gates revealed our own version of the 'Lost Gardens of Heligan' which will no doubt take a ...

It has been difficult to see and enjoy this Island next to La Rochelle as the weather has been adverse and today when we tried to ride all over the island we were an hour into the journey and it started to pour. After sheltering under a tree for five minutes it was decided that it wasn't going to stop so we got a quick snack at the local bread shop and then rode flat out back to the campsite. We were soaked through and freezing ...
