It was a little strange to be in a city on a hill, we've been in the lowlands too long. There is still plenty of flat area though, that is where the old docklands and shipbuilding took place. The ship factories have been turned into parks and in one case a place called Iles ...

Needless to say, even the boneheads at Garmin can't differentiate the standard of one D road to another, neither can I. It could be brilliant or a complete patchwork quilt, it's a lottery.
The day was dull and overcast but dry.
Me and Will set off, bright and early, about 12.30pm, grabbed an N road out of Nantes and then hit the D roads.
Absolutely brilliant but we had some mileage to do.....
Yet another sunny day in France. Last night it was so very black not sure I have ever seen such intense darkness. Suz took her panic alarm to bed with her she spooked me a bit so took mine too but I slept well. We are in the car park of what looks to be a witton park sort of place cyclists dog walkers etc. Both still in pjs drinking coffee we plan to go to the coast today about 10 miles ...
... by and ask for help. I was in the middle of nowhere and there was no cars passing by. Okay, let's have some coffee. I got everything with me to make some. After two coffees a friendly french guy stopped and asked if he could help me out. 'Yes please!' With the two of us, we had the motor back on the road in no time. 'Merci beaucoup, Monsieur! Vous voulez un cafée?'

The day we visited Nantes I started off in really high spirits.
Driving into the town was a real treat. The streets were wide, the new buildings not too high and with some inspired architecture.
The Centre Ville had a few medieval building still, with later buildings, all blending into a fascinating melange.
