Alex gets bored when he stays still for too long, so we decided on a side trip to keep him occupied. He chose Nantes (not that we could pronounce it until we arrived there!) because he could see there was a scenic rail trip from Nantes to Orleans along the Loire valley. It was covered under Eurail as well, with no booking required for most of the journeys. There were some times that said booking required. We did book anyway ...

Paul our 85 year old caretaker has been very busy in the garden, picking pears, digging shallots and potatoes, harvesting the white beans called Demi sec, that have to be picked and left in the sun to dry.. The new government has been formed in France and I am sure every French person is captivated by the announcements. Interestingly the Minister of Education is Najat Belkacem, first woman to hold Education and there are 8 woman appointed out of 16 ministers. vive les femmes!!The left has held the majority and it will be business as usual hopefully but I am sure there will be some grumbling ...
