In the evening, we made our gourmet dinner of instant rice and canned vegetables. Sometimes, you just have to work with what you’ve got, and sometimes, that isn’t a lot. However, I think it will be really fun to get to see another part of Europe, as France is the only country I have been to so far. I never expected that I would find so many people willing to extend me kindness and friendship. If you had told me last year what I would be doing this year, I would not have believed you. Even now, I can hardly believe it.

... sons, and he himself was not very old. So, why are they unable to keep a clean refuge? They wisely did not have a livre d’or, or we would have had some not so nice things to say. Also, like most refuges, they said that breakfast was provided, and while they brought us bread that night for the next day, there was no butter or jam or anything else. Even the sugar tin was filled with bugs.
