    ... a long field, but I kept the faith and was rewarded with pavement at the other end - and even knew where I was because I had passed that way in 2013. I then followed familiar roads until I could no longer reconcile the directions with what I saw, so I played a hunch (which proved to be correct) and armed with knowledge gleaned last year, just followed the tram tracks right to the hotel. Easy peasy. Now all I need is sleep (and plenty of it). ...

    ... this area is known for it's wine and we started our day with a drive through the region and a wine tasting. The area was beautiful and the medieval villages were stunning.

    In the morning we headed back down the Saone towards Lyon again to join the Rhone river which takes us to the South of France and more facinating villages.

    Next stop the stunning village of Vienne - a real gem on the banks of the Rhone river. We arrived in the late afternoon ...

    ... pick of museums, parks, and cathedrals. To start I walk 5 minutes from the hostel to the Gallo-Romain ruins, where I learn that you can walk around these freely (unlike any ruins I went to in Italy) and also that entry to the associated museum is free tomorrow. The air in Lyon today is pleasantly cool and breezy, and it's nice to be on a hill (though not the walking bit).     ... and I am sure had the desired effect to keep the locals under control. It was too foggy to go up and look today so that was put on hold for another day.
    Grenoble is a nice city with tall building built in an era where there was lots of money around.
