Today we headed about half an hour north of Reims to Laon, a town built atop a sand and limestone plateau in Picardie. We were treated to a guided tour of the cathedral and surrounding town. Construction of the cathedral commenced in 1150, with the majority of the main building finished by 1180 and the five towers completed by 1230.
