We started the day (after a quick breakfast in our room) by walking around the Medieval town of Provins. Being as UNESCO Heritage site, most of the old town was much more 14th Century, instead of the most common 18th and mid-19th Centuries. The town had been host to one of the largest seasonal markets (fairs) in northern France until the mid-14th century, when the fair was overtaken by those of Paris and Lyon. The final blows to the economy ...

The quality of the towpath surface was a bit variable so we ducked on and off it, using roads near the canal where the towpath surface was poor. The main section of towpath for us was the section through Reims ...

... a third Gothic Cathedral for the day. We just had a very nice meal out al fresco opposite the cathedral. Could have been very touristy, but not here in this quiet, smaller hilltop town. The "menu" (ie the fixed price, fixed selection) is attached with pics of the dishes just to make you jealous. That rum baba in a glass, floating in white rum, infused with vanilla pods, added at the table, was ...

... On our last day in Meursault (Monday), the sun came out and the sky turned blue. We hadn’t wanted to sound like anyone should feel sorry for us, so we haven’t been complaining about the clouds, fog and rain of the past two weeks. We also didn’t think you probably wanted to hear that living in a castle, even one with hot water heat, can get a little cold and drafty. But now I’m 'fessing up, because Monday was ...
