We had breakfast and packed our bags to leave LeHavre this morning. We didn't have to board the bus until 9 am, but we had a lot of driving to do today.
For our first stop, we visited a small museum built around the train car where the armistice for WWI was signed. In 1940, Hitler used the same train car to accept France's surrender. The car which was actually general Foch's office, was ...

... after the war. We had a much shorter day's ride ending in Noyon around 2.30pm so we could visit the massive cathedral and convent grounds and partake in a cold beer as the temperature was now around 30 degrees before riding back to the barge to relax before dinner. Pont Leveque, which is just outside Noyon, was the location for the barge overnight and Rick and Marias presented us with another lovely meal, a variety of bruschetta, followed by salad from ...

We emerged from the hotel soon after 08:00 this morning - the tandems (and solo bike) were duly extracted from the little lock-up within the hotel garage and we were away. The quality of the towpath surface was a bit variable so we ducked on and off it, using roads near the canal where the towpath surface was poor. The main section of towpath for us was the section through Reims ...

... a third Gothic Cathedral for the day. We just had a very nice meal out al fresco opposite the cathedral. Could have been very touristy, but not here in this quiet, smaller hilltop town. The "menu" (ie the fixed price, fixed selection) is attached with pics of the dishes just to make you jealous. That rum baba in a glass, floating in white rum, infused with vanilla pods, added at the table, was ...

... The tour lasted a couple of hours and took us to into the limestone caves deep under the ground which were originally mined for their limestone. The temperatures remains constant at 11C so is ideal for storing Champagne. Our guide was most informative and took us through the stages of production and we viewed thousands of bottles and magnums of Champagne. The tour finished with a tasting of two of the types they produce and ...
