It was planned to be much longer (and, in fact, a cross in the square opposite the church marks the planned extent of the nave), but the town could no longer afford a big church (and no longer had the need for one), so construction was halted where it was. The rest of the time we spent wandering around Epernay, popping into Champagne bars, eating nice food, looking at the buildings etc. We didn't even get to Reims as we loved this place so much. I expect more adventures and excursions to come, so look out for my upcoming posts!

The fact that it is quite close to our previous stop was an added attraction, and we were here and set-up by noon.
The people at the Reception were amazingly friendly and helpful, willingly spoke excellent English, and then admitted that they had spent time in Brisbane before.... They even added a couple ...

... brat this evening) we settled for a disco looking brasserie complete with fluro purple flashing lights (yes... Times were tough) but a nice outdoor area. A lovely drink was had and a round of Monopoly Deal ... Only to find that they serve food on Fridays only. At this stage today felt pretty hard (in reflection we were whining about too much sun, the heat and having difficulty finding champagne houses and food, so not your traditional definition of hard). Attempt number two ...
