We had spent a pleasant morning visiting Christmas Market in the greater Colmar area in the Alsace region of France. One town more pleasant than the next all decked out with lights and tinsle. In general we had a good day and the people were helpful and frendly.
Sadly our day was marred by the unpleasant service I and 3 other ladies received today at the Restaurant Wistub zum Pfifferhüs in Ribeauville. 3 of 4 persons each chose meals from the menu, the 4th person, a ...
... drunk that I was sick ha ha should have listened to Ian.
Monday
I did feel terrible today hung over and feeling really dizzy again, I threw up again so not much going on for us today. I did manage to have a little walk to a market but it was not open and then we walked a bit more in Mulhouse its shocking ha ha. We have decided to go to the Autumn fair tomorrow so that should be a little bit more exciting sorry ha ha.
... here in France as all the letters and nu,bers are all the wrong way around so if it looks silly I am sorry and I will have to catch up with the rest of the blog another time as it will take me years.
Anyway we found our hotel and we upograded our room to have a kitchen so that could cook and rest and stay in a little before we go off to Morroco. So thats what we did we went to the supermarket ...
... short cultural visits (giving the taste buds a rest) and gastronomic experiences. On our first visit we tasted 13 wines, including a couple of grands crus, we learnt to schluck and pucker – that is take a small sip and breathe air in through the wine without choking and we had the honour of meeting the founder of the domaine. We visited large vineyards, tiny organic producers, eaux de vie tastings, beer tastings, we ...
... with costumes and masks and bands. Damn near froze standing still for that long, but I had a good vantage point for the pictures so I wasn't going to move for fear of losing my spot. After the parade we got stuck into the gluhwein and some hot food then went back to the hostel for a hot shower, then out for dinner. We went to a local brewery that had a restaurant incorporated and had such a good time that we made it a regular while we were there.
Freiburg im Breisgau, Baden-Württemberg, Germany danandroz... not great, but not bad. Getting over the thought was half the battle. The rest of the meal was fantastic! The main dishes (which the 5 of us shared 4 and could have even just shared 3) were soooo good! I was sooooo full when I was done I thought I could burst! This is the crazy part about Germans..... so we drank 2 bottles of wine with food (4 people drinking), all ate until we thought we were going to burst, and then, without any discussion, you walk down the street ...
Colmar, France msilver_21... by vineyards and joined together by rural roads. Spaced about 20 min walk apart it was a great place to stroll from one town to another, stopping to try and buy some wine along the way. However I discovered wine tasting isn't as much fun when you are alone and was starting to be ready to go home. Lucky for me I had just one more stop....
Colmar, France kankel... barbed wire and signs that say "Dangerous" because there are still live shells! Stopped by the cemetaries. I put a little stone on all the Star of David markers just like Judy taught me. That way people will know someone was there and cared. Well, gonna hike back to the room and pack for Luzern, Switzerland and the last leg of the trip. Toodles, Denise and her feet
