The blue lobsters were literally snapping and the shrimp wriggling and waving their antennae as they scrambled over piles of their brethren and we purchased a kilo of the pink crustaceans, and the mussels from Mont St Michel. The first fete we ever attended was a raucous affair, with little in the way of applies, the poisonous punch, lots of wine, a vote for the mayor of the village, speeches, drinking songs and games and salad and some bread the only food in evidence until after midnight.
