Last day - a bit of a wreck, but I loved it

A travel blog entry by sw95177

Well, I've had my last day and I'm packing my bags ready to leave. This week has been a major deviation from my regular running. According to my marathon training plan, I should have done 52 miles on flat or slightly undulating roads around Hertfordshire. Instead, I've chosen to do 47 miles, mostly on mountain trails at altitude. My legs have been battered, pummeled and stretched to within an inch of their active existence, ...

Day 5 - Just like Scotland: mountains & rain

Well, we've had 4 days of fantastic sunny weather, but I looked out my bedroom window this morning to be confronted with clouds below us and above us. It was just like Scotland without the highland cattle. Main session today was a VO2 Max session at the track (altitude: 500 Meters). This was about improving running efficiency by taking ourselves above our lactic threshold, somewhere close to lung bursting level. One set was 90 seconds, 3 min recovery, 60 seconds, 3 min ...

Then the rain came down. Holiday ...

Overall, today will go down as an easy workout day, which suits me fine because the next couple of days will be tough. What we went through today: Morning: hill session, focussing on technique and benefits of hill sessions Afternoon: Recovery run. 4 miles; time: 35:38; heart rate effort: 66%; calories spent: 541; Altitude: 1,100 Meters Deep stretching session: Now, this was good. I'd ...

... training. So, new vitamins for me when I get back. Anyway, let me share what happened today. Beautiful weather, about 25 Degrees and a day for the factor 20. Morning: 10 mile mountain run, Time: 1 hour, 35 min's; Pace: totally irrelevant; Heart rate effort: 80%; Calories spent: 1205. The run started at about 1,000 Meters, reached 1,500 Meters at highest point. Mostly mountain trails, with spectacular views over Lake Annecy and beyond. The inclines were tough going and ...
