Vannes is 13th century and has medieval ramparts and watchtowers and gates and there are beautiful halftimbered houses and buildings behind the townwalls. As we were only there for one day we took a mini bus trip which took us all around the old city and outside the walls! Fougeres has a magnificent castle built on the side of the hill sloping down to the river. The builders had used the river to fill the moat and drive four water wheels that remain in use (I guess having been replaced a few times).

There's a bakery, Le Bar Sportif, also small restaurant that serves as a post office and sells lotto tickets and magazines, there's a little supermarket and a pharmacy and two hairdressers! The locals are all know that we have arrived and news has got around about the deux Australians staying in Le Rachet! They are all very friendly and very understanding of our poor French!
