Lies and Water

After a long discussion about if it was worth it to spend the amount of money that they were asking (1400 bolivares each) we decided to venture ourselves to Angel Falls... We had already given up on our first plan of Los Roques, and stubbornly Ali will not give up on the idea of seeing at least one of the major attractions of Venezuala before running to cheaper shores of Colombia. Arriving to Ciudad Bolivar (the getaway for the falls) after a 5 hour bus trip Guillermo (the person that Andrein...

... language, and are spectacular in themselves, extending across a lagoon that is about half a mile wide. The Rio Carrao tumbles some 50 metres before exploding in clouds of spray that climb most of the way back to the top. The power of the falls is phenomenal and the sheer volume of water that cascades every moment must be in the zillions of gallons. Our photos do not do the spectacle justice; it is one of those amazing natural wonders that has to be experienced at first hand ...

... other beautiful waterfalls round the Canaima lagoon, and even walk behind them. Seeing the water surge down, so powerfully that it blocks the sun and billows out backwards towards you, standing behind, is amazing.

We were also lucky enough (!) to be there the night the locals were throwing an 80s party. Picture 2 local ladies dressed in classic 80s outfits, lip synching to Spanish 80s hits. It was a night to remember... :)

... friendly guide took Adam to the "supermarket" (its more like a deli) to get some beer. He paid $5 aussie per small cano f beer. But he was happy, so it wa a small price to pay. The following morning we walked around the beach and relaxed before having to leave. The jeep/bus thing came to pick us up and take us to the airport, which is literally down the road. As we were driving off, we were stopped by some guys yelling and whistling behind us. The jeep stopped ...

It is supposed to be the dry season but the water is pretty high for this time of the year, the seasons are getting later and later. Giant oblong and square mountains jut out of the landscape, many with their own waterfalls pouring from them. As we move further up the river these become more and ...
