We stopped for lunch at a lake just outside Mildura (the town we were headed to for our next stop); Lake Cullulleraine has a lovely grassy picnic area so we got the camping chairs out of the boot and made ourselves comfortable for enjoying the scenery. ... we manage to check out a few of the main features and go down to the wharf on the Darling where the paddle steamers used to dock. There is a great craft shop here and Sheila buys another sheep for the collection! We do some more of the town drive and then head to the Gaol . This was the first gaol designed for Australian conditions and and remains in excellent order.

The Traders area provides the usual trade stalls and promotional stalls (next 2 AGMs, Mildura tourist info etc). ... this farm work. More on this later. We managed to get a job straight away, $18 an hour, starting 7am the next morning, picking aubergines. Can't be that bad - everyone does farm work right?

So why did 3 weeks seem so long? Because I think this job may have aged Lisa & I by about 10 years. The job was agonising - we would cover our bodies in deep heat at 6.30 am, pop paracetamol and ibuprofen before getting there and sit on that depressing mini ...
