After a 5 hour flight from Toronto, arrived in Vancouver at 9am local time, thats another 3 hours lost on top of the five that went AWOL in Toronto. I am now 8 hours behind my beloved Greenwich Mean Time. Staying in a bit of a rubbish hostel, but only here for 2 nights, then off to pemberton festival on the sunday to see Death Cab For Cutie, N.E.R.D, Coldplay and Jay-Z. Back in the hostel in vancouver for one night on the monday and then off on a tour of whistler, banff, jasper and the rockie...
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada joetroopjust a very quick entry, not really much to write about, but I don't know if I'll have access to the internet the next couple of days. Had a quick mooch about Vancouver today, went down to Gastown, which was quite nice, got a photo taken next to the steam powered clock. On the whole though, not greatly impressed with Vancouver. When we went down to Pacific Central Station today to pick up our greyhound tickets to Pemberton there were more skagheads than buses. Still, off to Pemberton festival...
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada joetroopWell, I've arrived in Vancouver after the impressive (in my opinion) bus-ferry-bus-bus-wrong bus-right bus trip. I left the hostel at 6.30am and didn't get to Vancouver till about 12.30! I was lucky when I arrived that I got off the bus just outside the Cambie Seymour hostel which I was able to get a room in for six night (since the place I was booked into was near the depressed end of town and was apparently not safe to be walking around at night in). It's quite near all the hotels that are ...

... 4 hours it took us!! Dont think Sab was too impressed. Had to get 4 different buses and the last one didnt go all the way as there was roadworks, so we had to walk even further!! 10km round the lake though and it was really beautiful (Buntzen translates as beautiful in abbo speak), so definitely worth it. Would like to go back but not sure I can face the bus trips!
This weekend is Canadian thanksgiving which is why I'm off work today living it up. Not sure how its spent ...
... to take along the way. I expect that the really good stuff will come once we start up the Amazon around the middle of October, but there will be other intersting places before then to tell you about. The itinerary shows that we leave Vancouver at 5:00 pm Friday and arrive in Victoria at 7:00am Saturday. If this is true then only one of two things is going to happen between Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. Either we will ...
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada tomtravel... ride even a sprinkling of rain which was the first time in 3weeks for me, thats long. Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada meshellAs promised in my last entry we headed straight oot in to the Vancouver sunshine to make the most of it. The hostel had a deal with a bike rental place near Stanley park so we got ourselves some cheap wheels for a few hours and did some riding. There's a one way trail that goes right around the park with passing views of the city, the north shore and its mountains, under the Lionsgate Bridge and around to the ...
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada paulleck1975... spend some time with you... no matter how brief... I expected the weather in Vancouver to be rainy... tis the season! Thankfully, I'm armed with my warm fleece, dependable MEC rain jacket and compact umbrella (thanks T!) so the weather doesn't bug me much. I've been here for two weeks, and thankfully the rain only dampened the first few days of my trip. The temperature has hovered between 5 ...
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada bananitaOk... so this is a test, sort of. In the planning of our epic adventure, I am trying to find the best way to keep peple connected, and updated along our route-- I have no idea what kind of access we will have, or how much time we will want to pull off to update, but I think I would rather be as prepared as possible before I go. This site has a map, easy to add photos, automatic updates and links to facebook, so it might ...
