    Amazing Staff and Perfect Location

    Reviewed May 24, 2013

This hotel is located right by the lake in the old quarter with plenty of restaurants nearby.

The rooms are nice and comfortable and breakfast is very good.

The best thing about this hotel is the amazing staff. Thuy Morning and Thuy Afternoon are just exceptional receptionist who will go out of their way to do anything to assist.

They managed to change train tickets we had been sold in HCMC to soft tourist class for us and the porter even escorted us to the train station, changed our tickets and put us in our carriage on the train. This is above and beyond the service I would expect anywhere.

We unexpectedly returned to the hotel having had a very bad experience on a Hanoi Bay Cruise with The Real Kangaroo Cafe and the staff were so kind and gave us an upgraded room for our stay.

I cannot recommend this hotel enough it really is a perfect base for exploring Hanoi.

... steamy temperature was most welcome.

We then continued on to explore the island, bypassing the National Park, because none of us wanted to do any hiking to see "lots of trees". This was the answer we got when we asked what there was to see in the park. Seriously, it was going to get dark in a couple of hours and we wanted to enjoy our scooters. We pressed on and instead of taking the same road back, we decided to drive along the coastal road. It was ...

... tour in Hanoi one evening...it was us, a British couple traveling around the world and our young and fun guide...we sampled street foods, stopped by some family owned little restaurants, enjoyed the divine Vietnamese coffee and not-so-divine (although what can you expect for 15 cents a bottle?) Bia Hoi - a type of draft beer very popular in Vietnam...I fell terribly in love with Vietnamese ...

He suggested that, because he has the body he does, he has been denied opportunities, especially educational ones. His English was fantastic and he said that he taught himself from books every day. His drive, energy and resilience must be phenomenal. He loves British culture and would dearly like to visit the UK someday. It was a pleasure to meet him and we hope to keep in touch via ...

... fittings at the tailor. Lunches were cheap baguette sandwiches, a leftover gift from the French occupancy, in addition to sweets sold on the street, like doughnuts. Yum! I also woke up for Tai Chi at sunrise on the beach.

A few days in Hoi An was not enough but we headed back to Hanoi in time for an afternoon and evening in the Old Quarter before our trip to Halong Bay. I realize now just how much there is to see in Vietnam and while ...
