    ... So after a very pleasant few days - time has just melted away - we need to pack and move on. The only disappointment we've had is that we felt very let down at the local restaurant. If we stop for a few days, we try and have at least one "local" meal. Others along the way have been so good with local fare at a reasonable price.     ... from our apartment we have a great beach, nice for swimming. The water is admittedly cool by Muscat standards but even I have had a good long swim. The area is very nice, good beaches, lots of restaurants and bars but obviously aimed a families rather than the 'young' crowd. Interestingly lots of Bulgarian and Rumanian cars here and I would agree a better choice than the Black Sea. The prices are 'European' though and twice as much as we paid in ...

    ... Russian and Arabic". I spoke Arabic in Turkey and Russian in Bulgaria, it was good for shopping.
    Bulgaria has beautiful countryside but I found the towns depressing, all those rotting concrete blocks of apartments and every pavement broken and derelict. The government must be both corrupt and incompetent and it's a tough burden for the population. There has been a massive brain drain, it's the only European country where the population is decreasing. ...

    ... super smart Greek people company:) The same day we hitchiked towards Bulgaria but after we reached Thessaloniki and took a bus out to the outskirts of it, it became dark and we couldnt find any promised gas station there. So we just took 3 hour bus ride there and back! Happily my wonderful friend Despina found us a place to stay in Thessaloniki! We couldnt have been more thankful!
    Next morning we took a bus to Sofia!
