Travel Blogs from London
It's Sunday night now, and I haven't done an update in two and a half days.
I actually see that as a good sign. It's not that I haven't had anything to say, it's that I've been too tired at the end of the day to sit down & write.
So I guess chronological order would suit most people as I describe London, rather than experiential …
Saw sunrise over what must have been a part of Russia, judging by flight path. A lovely streak of red against the deep blue sky. Lots of lights below us, must have been a big city. Had breakfast of cereal and then thankfully we finally landed. We had coffees there, freshened up and caught the Heathrow express to Paddington, had a carriage to …
... much for dinner so that part worked out well. I fell asleep on the train coming back to London, so we decided to make it an easy afternoon and I had a snooze while Narelle read, her favourite pastime. We will have a lot to catch up on tomorrow but our Hotel is in a great place. We are in easy walking distance to Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey, so can even fit them in after dinner tomorrow night. Well off to get ready for our night ...
... of time to make my flight which was at 7:15 - nothing was going to stop me from making that flight.
Everything went smoothly until I was at the gate. The lady checked my ticket than said that my carry-on bag was too big. Now, anyone who doesnt know about my carry-on (most people do), it is technically too big to be a carry on as it is an inch and a half too long and I have been constantly worried about it during this whole trip. Instead of worrying or freaking out about it, ...
We were back in London and this provided a week to soak up the London, to not have to travel. Introductions and speaking of ourselves had reached a point of saturation and a day or so relaxing with the London Judsons was exactly what the doctor ordered to rejuvenate us for the upcoming week. It was blissful.
Next it was down with the Christmas decorations and a mass invitation to demolish the Gingerbread House, the annual event for 20 years now. ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel California London
myself and my husband stayed here in october and found the rooms to be clean, with everything we needed for our stay.
the staff were friendly and helpful. we didnt have problem with niose at all. we are going back in december.
Hotel California was the second hotel I stayed at in the Argyle Square area. Based on internet research Hotel California, and it's sister hotels, had seemed clean, friendly, and well priced. While the hotel was generally clean, the staff were terribly rude to me and my guests. When two old friends attempted to follow me to my room to help me with baggage and retrieve personal items. It seems that the hotel staff actually might have believed that I was prostituting out of the hotel!!!!!! I still can't believe that they felt it was o.k. to make me so uncomfortable and embarrassed when actually paying for a service!!! Their handling of any questionablity was completely inappropriate. Generally I am a proponent of a businesses desire to make accomodations safer, but it seems that they don't understand that as a result of high exchange rates they might be receiving a higher calaber of international guest. As a result my stay was only one night, and I will never return or recommend any of their businesses.
Please Stop The Noise!
The location close to Kings Cross Station is convenient, and the wireless Internet access is a blessing, but the noise made this one of the worst hotel experiences of my life. A busload of students kept us up late three nights in a row. The staff was sympathetic but did little to enforce any quiet with the students. If that was not enough, construction at the nearby tube station (through 2006) lasted all day and could be heard some nights. I chose the hotel because I was traveling on business, but the lack of sleep made it an awful business decision. Try to get a room with a window off the street, and on a high floor where the students stomping on the ceiling won't keep you awake. As for me, I will never make the mistake of staying here again.
Easy access, heavy noise
In July 2004 I stayed at the Hotel California with my family for four days.
We found the hotel staff friendly.
The rooms are very small and not particularly clean. Our "en-suite" bathroom was in the closet!
Breakfast is OK but plates and cutlery not clean.
The neighbourhood is rough and noisy so we were secure knowing the front door is locked after dark.
We had a great time in London. The hotel is close to the tube with easy access to all attractions.
However, I wouldn´t stay there again.
Well worth the price
The single room was absolutely minuscule but surprisingly clean. The management was courteous and competent, and the English breakfast rather good as English breakfasts go. An excellent value at 35 pounds.
The Hotel California was superb, the art work was amazing, especially that eye in room 106, grreat! Anyway, the breakfast was awesome and the location was super. Boom shanks
Not so bad
I stayed here for 2 nights in November, 2003. I had read the reviews prior to booking, and was somewhat hesitant to try this hotel. It wasn't too bad! The room was very small (single), but having en-suite facilities was a plus. The "shower" is really the bathroom itself with a shower head above - very strange. I didn't have any noise problems, and my room faced the street. The stairwells are narrow and steep, so large luggages would be a problem. The breakfast is buffet style, and was fine. The neighborhood is a bit rough, but being a female traveling alone I had no problems, but I didn't go out alone after dark either.
King's Cross station is within eyesight of the hotel, which is very convenient. Don't arrive expecting much and you will be pleasantly surprised.
June, 2003 Just returned from a 4 night stay at the Hotel California.
Hotel California is fine
I was pretty horrified when I read the review of the first reviewer as I had already booked for 20 students and myself. However, I found Hotel California to be just fine. Nothing fancy, simple yet decent, clean(!!!), nicely decorated and OK breakfast. The Hotel California people are nice and helpful. Other advantages are its central location and the reasonable rates. The two nights I stayed there it was quiet so perhaps the first reviewer was just unlucky.
