... and the last class I was a little offended as Juan, my teacher, told me we would concentrate on movement......I interpreted that pretty badly, so all this time my movement had been the problem! Anyway the one to one dance sessions were fine, it was the going out each night that was slightly more difficult. I was pretty much the only guest in Hostel Encuentro so when I went out I had to go on my own.....a little daunting. This was way out of my comfort zone and very ...

... plans to meet up today at 3 for a short walk and then to go to her place. Jan was also supposed to meet up with a couchsurfing friend so we made plans to all hang out together and Jan came with me to meet Valeria at a nice park overlooking a beautiful view of the city just a few blocks from our hostel. ... Lapa. The area is renowned for its nightlife and this I could confirm from my last visit here. Obviously with the World Cup well under way, Rio was bursting at the seems and it seemed everyone that had come for the footie could be found in Lapa that night. This area of town is more about the streets than the bars, beer and Brazils world famous caipirinha could be bought from stalls found every few metres. The bars opened their windows and pumped out music coupled with ...

... dizzying, and tiring! I had to laugh at myself and all the drunk Australian men trying to catch the steps! But moreso, I had to laugh at the ridiculous instructor! He is a great salsa dancer, moves his hips and shoulders well and his feet fast, but he LOVES watching himself dance! Making suave faces in the mirror and swiping his hands around his head and waist while he smoothly moved to the 5, 6, and 8 beat songs. Hilarious entertainment all around! But I admire his ...
