41 Posidonos Avenue, Mati, Nea Makri Attica, Greece, 19009
... the stadium where the first ever Olympic games where held in 1896 and then on through the busy (but moving) city streets, passing through large squares. There are large numbers of police everywhere, which we take as an aftermath of yesterday's demonstrations but there is no sign of any trouble. We stop for a coffee and then walk back to the Parliament Building to watch the hourly changing of the guard, an interesting display of controlled, slow motion, marching ...
Athens, Attica, Greece harryandnorahATHENS IS AMAZING. I am a little fatigued right now so I'm not going to write much, but we have spent the past two days in Greece and it has been absolutely wonderful. The Acropolis is the most amazing place I have ever seen, we spent hours there. I will write so much more later - but now I just wanted to let everyone know that we are ...
Athens, Attica, Greece angelatickle... us a wee dram in a tiny shot glass. It was good and after finding the prices of the other brands higher, and the liquor itself untested, we settled on the Tyrconnell. Altogether as we browsed through the stores, we had 3 miniature shots, and were feeling quite wonderful. We bought a Sunday Telegraph and headed to the Bar and Brasserie for eggs benedict, with real Hollandaise sauce, which I haven't ...

Athens, Attica, Greece louise_et_marc... to get knocked down. I wonder if it's a coincidence that the Temple of Poseidon is built where it is windy, since he was the god of the sea and inflicted harm to those traveling on it. On our way back to Athens, we stopped along the coast and got out and walked in the ocean. Later in the car, I guess I had touched my lips with my fingers and licked my lips and noticed they were salty ...
Athens, Attica, Greece deidre-leist... them for 10-12 thousand years. Acid rain also has played a part. My oppinion? I think that they should have left it the way it was. the ruins would have been so beautiful if you didnt have to pretend there wasnt a crane next to it. To their credit, they use as much of the original pieces as they can, but it is clear where the old part ends and the new part begins. The only time the scaffolding has ever been taken down was for the olympics a couple of years back ...
Athens, Greece lovin_apples... Sounion, the most south-easterly point from Athens, where the ruins of the Temple of Poseidon still stand tall on the cliffs overlooking the entry into the Saronic Gulf. Trevor has been particularly keen to see this landmark as he was asleep in his cabin when we passed by on our yacht a week ago - and was not happy that he was the only one of the 8 of us that didn't see it! We get to the site by by 9am, to find that it doesn't even open until 11am! However, we get some nice views of ...

Patras, Greece rlineuropeAfter three days, we finally reached Santorini. It is quite possibly the most beautiful place I've ever seen. And I even saw the sun. If it there hadn't been hurricane force winds it would have been a perfect temperature. I wanted to go to the site of Ancient Thira which is literally on top of the tallest point in Santorini. I made it 3/4 of the way up and decided to head back down because the wind was ...
