... Toro, and from there get a chartered sail boat that sails through the San Blas Islands and into Cartagena, Colombia. The trip takes around 5 days, and costs around $375, so quite expensive but one of the only ways of getting into Colombia whilst missing out the Darien Gap. So should be exciting, they have started to get into the Christmas mood here - strange seeing fake plastic christmas trees and baubles on a beach house in Costa Rica. All for now, peace and pure vida!
... it later transpired that that was the way of Costa Rica and not this place in particular. Also, the rather ****** weather we'd been having had tailed us north, and dullness and rain were once again the order of the day. Ho hum.
Shortly after arrival I made a snap decision to join Chris and some Danish folk on an excursion to a sloth sanctuary, as I knew that otherwise I would achieve nothing for the entire day, such is the way the lads and I generally ...

Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica tropicalcr... same idea and the same dream - to work together to help somebody to make a better life. I was a volunteer at Cocles elementary school, close to Puerto Viejo de Limon on the Caribbean coast. My host family was a continual coming and going of many people: mum, dad, two daughters, the grandmother and grandfather, an uncle and a little ...
Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica tropicalcr... but they know of another one, very nice, very cheap, that will give them a nice commission for bringing you. I walked away and found another woman going to the same bus station, and a driver who would take us. We actually made it just in time for the nine o'clock bus, so it all worked out in the end. I'm just still fuming about those guys trying to take advantage of me. Back home, I encounter people on a daily basis who speak English about as well as I speak Spanish ...
Cahuita, Costa Rica espriseme... the milky way, and a few meteors every minute. Quite a neat experience to be in the pitch black, with the jungle on one side and the ocean on the other side, with so many stars overhead. Again, we didn't get a turtle, so I guess I'm just saving up my luck for another night. This morning was the first time I actually saw blue skies, so we were all on the beach by about 7:30 am. It was sweltering hot by about 9:30 though, so I guess the clouds aren't all bad news. There isn ...

Plus, they do this almost subvocal whooping that is not monodirectional, at least to my ears. Really ****ing eerie, and really ****ing cool to lie in bed listening to this early morning call to prayer by monkey muezzin. As an aside, though, the eco-friendly, recycled, for all I know organic so you can eat it, toilet paper sucks ass ...
Puerto Viejo, Province of Limon, Costa Rica cadkinscaHey everyone, Que pasa (Whats happening)? Ive had a wonderful week in Costa Rica and Ill take off from where I last finished, in Fortuna. After writing the last blog I walked outside and could see the Volcano Arenal so I bit the bullet and signed up for the lava viewing tour, and I'm stoked that I did. We drove to the National Park and then hiked for half an hour in the dark to the best viewpoint. From there we could see the red glow from semi-solid lava boulders as they bounced ...

Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica jenny58... and then the locals who stayed would blast their boom boxes with reggae at 6 am every morning. At least it was good music :)
There was a bar/restaurant and bands that played there at night. Everything was completely open, except for the bathrooms and a few specific rooms. The place was massive. Many of the past travelers had made their mark by tiling the columns and floors in their ...
