... moving deciding realising we wouldnt have enought time to get to LA for our flights out if we didnt get a move on. Made our way an hour up the road to a beach resort called Playa Del Carmen an hour up the road. Getting a flight to Mexico City tomorrow to spend the weekend there and feed the addiction to Mexican food which we have developed...dead cheap, very hot, and really nice but it makes some people go to the toilet alot!

see you soon
Tulum, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico fosweb... the beach, the water was an amazingly clear blue, and was warm, even though we were at the beach at 9am. We stayed for about 3 hours, just long enough for me to get severely burnt on all the places I forgot to put sunscreen on.

The next day we went to the Mayan ruins on the coast, about 300 metres past where we were swimming the day previous. Not the most spectacular or grand ruins we’ve ever visited, but it was beautiful nestled up on the rocks above a private ...
Tulum, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico shanemilli... an evening watching the sunset. Not too many people were out and about but a person approached us and said hello. Who could it be but the Israeli from the cenote this morning! What a coincidence. He was going to stay with us at our hotel after not finding any other nice options. We made our way together followed most of the way by a kitten, before hitching a lift in the back of a pickup truck, but that is another story for another time.
Tulum, Mexico tipperoonie... south again to Akumal, a big coastal lagoon. It was obviously a popular spot with locals and tourists alike - we found it hard to find a car park initially! The long beach was busy but not packed so we went for a nice swim and stretched out in the sun for a few minutes, but being quite pale from living in Canada we were extremely careful not to get sunburnt. Ravenous from all the swimming, we discovered a little non-descript taco joint just near the entrance to ...
Tulum, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico sarzmc... storm, informing us that our chances would increase with the rain, and rain it did! The sky turned a very dark shade of grey as did the sea and the shoreline disappeared. The rain came down so hard it started to hurt our skin. When the storm passed, all that was left were four wet humans and boat with no fish. However, undeterred, we ploughed on and within half an hour Mish realled in a small Barracuda to the delight of everyone. With a new found confidence ...
Tulum, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico thedidgeridudeOur main reasons for stopping at this point on the Mexican Yucatan were to relax on the beautiful beaches and visit the famous, well preserved coastal Mayan site. After a long journey from San Pedro in Belize, we arrived in the early evening and checked into a Hotel, which offered rooms with TVs, a real treat for us. After getting settled, we headed around the corner onto Avenue Tulum, where the main bars and restaurants are found. Much to our surprise, the centre of Tulum was ...
Tulum, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico yorkieandloxy... sounded like she was about to cry everytime she spoke. We decided to head back to Cancun on Friday evening to experience the phenomenon that is Coco Bongos. We stayed in a nice little hostel downtown, where me met some posh English gap year girls called Poppy, Clemmy and Verity ¿I kid you not? ¿I swear these keyboard buttons change to different things during one session?, and a Danish dude called Ulrik. The latter was travelling on his own, so he decided to join us for ...
Tulum, Mexico elltrev... being on LSD but I can`t vouch for that! All I was thinking of was Homer Simpson when he had the big chili at the fair :) The light is bended when it moves though this and the effect is only spectacular from the cobalt-coloured light that makes it`s way in. But then we entered a huge cave with lots of formations- columns, stalactites, stalagmites, flowstone, bunches of carrots...I don`t know what else but it sure beat Ailwee cave. Think it ...
Tulum, Mexico heidsontourWe hopped a bus from the Cancun airport to Tulum with an hour layover in Playa Del Carmen. Playa is a pretty heavy tourist spot with mostly european tourists. Tulum is a very small town with very little options for lodging. As soon as we arrived, we grabbed a taxi to the beach. We decided to rent a little ...
Tulum, Mexico quickbird... Finally the rain lets up and we are hungry and head out in search of breakfast. We bump into Zach and Corinne and they opt to join us in a couple of minutes. We head out and they will catch up. We had been walking past a quaint little place called Luna Maya ever since we got here, and agree to meet there. It is just past Zahra but not as far as Zamas. Chris and I wait a few minutes out front of Luna Maya, but then decide ...
