    ... seem to speak some English, but they are delighted when do don't have to - RESPECT! Yay Kate! Very warm welcomes and huge smiles seem to be the default attitude here. Although it's hot - about 30 degrees each day we were here - the city has thousands of trees and gorgeous shady squares where the temperature drops by 10 degrees and a refreshing breeze cools the happy flaneur at every turn ....oh joy and rapture ...

    Today we took the hotel shuttle into Tavira, which is about a mile away. It is a very old coastal fishing village with Roman, Moorish and Christian history. Many of the Portuguese adventurers to Africa left from here. There is a Roman bridge and a lovely Riverside Park along the river.
