We were hoping to make it from Georgetown Great Exuma to Turks and Caicos non-stop but we were beaten up by steep 5'-7' foot waves (with 9 footers thrown in for good measure), wind on our nose and the erratic rain. We learned that a thunderstorm was brewing so we decided to break for the night and head to Mayaguana. Mayaguana is an island on the southern tip located in the far Bahamas. It is one of the least visited islands. In 2007 ...

After finding customs in amongst the big dusty port we hiked up over the hill to Sapodilla historical site to see the stone rubbings from sailors from as far back as 1766, then headed down to the beach for a paddle. Hot and sweaty Sal decides to swim back to Ellisa in the beautiful turquoise waters. Meanwhile Eric spots an Osprey by the dinghy and whilst trying to get a good photo walks through a large spiders web! Lifting anchor we head off to the marina which ...

... ray nearby which is apparently a rare sighting here. What isn't rear are the Black Tip Sharks but by now they have lost their novelty and I'm focusing on the pretty corals and sponges.

It's hard to rate the diving here - it's basically unspoiled with a very healthy reef but there isn't an abundance of fish, either in variety of species nor in numbers and while there are colourful sponges and corals, the majority of the vegetation ...

... Tom informed us that we still had about a 45 minute walk before we would reach the town and by that stage, we would struggle to find an open restaurant even though it's a Saturday and only 8.30pm so he kindly drove us there in his golf-cart. Even then we wandered around for a while looking for somewhere to eat before finding a pizza place. (the 7th pizza in 6 weeks)
After paying the bill we go in search of a taxi for ...
